ARTT Freezer: Not Cooling or Not Freezing
A freezer that has warmed is a simpler machine than a refrigerator and the fault list is shorter: it has one compartment, one evaporator and no damper to distribute air, so when it stops holding temperature the candidates are the seal, the defrost circuit, the condenser and the room around it. Where a fridge-freezer can fail on air distribution, a standalone freezer usually cannot. What the owner actually observes
- The contents have softened but the machine is still running.
- A thick sheet of ice has built up on the walls or the back panel rather than a light frost.
- The outside of the cabinet feels warm, or the machine runs continuously.
- Frost is forming around the door opening rather than inside.
- The appliance is in a garage or an unheated space and the problem is seasonal.

- The condenser coil and its fan at the back or beneath, with the machine unplugged — Order: third — Because: it is the cheapest correction available and it explains a machine that runs constantly without gaining

- Establish what this specific unit is. Read the data plate for the model, the serial and — importantly — the manufacturer or importer line, then work only from what that plate says. Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. When to call a technician
The line is the defrost circuit and the sealed system. Call if ice returns within days of a complete manual defrost, which points at the defrost circuit. Call if the cabinet never reaches 0 °F (−18 °C) after the seal, condenser and clearance have all been corrected. Call if the compressor is silent or clicks and stops repeatedly. Call immediately if there is an oily residue on the tubing at the back.
