ARTT Freezer: Abnormal Noise or Vibration
A standalone freezer has very few noise sources: the compressor, the condenser fan, an evaporator fan on frost-free models, and the cabinet itself expanding and contracting. Because these machines often live in garages and utility rooms, ordinary sounds that a kitchen would mask become complaints, and a large share of freezer noise calls turn out to be normal sounds heard in a quiet space. What the owner actually observes
- A buzzing or humming from the lower back that comes and goes with the cooling cycle.
- A rattle that changes if you press a hand on the cabinet.
- Periodic cracking or popping from inside the walls.
- A chirp or scrape from inside a frost-free cabinet that stops when the door opens.
- A knocking that starts a moment after the machine begins running.

Owner-safe checks
- Establish what this specific unit is. Read the data plate for the model, the serial and — importantly — the manufacturer or importer line, then work only from what that plate says. Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. The compressor and condenser fan sit close to mains terminals and the compressor runs hot enough to burn. When to call a technician
The line is any noise from inside a sealed or live compartment. Call if the noise comes from the compressor and has become a knocking or grinding rather than a hum. Call if an evaporator fan is confirmed as the source, since reaching it means removing the interior rear panel. Call if the noise arrived with a cabinet that is no longer holding temperature. Call if the sound changed suddenly rather than gradually.
