GE Oven F9: Door Lock Motor Stuck During Self-Clean
F9 indicates the door lock motor attempted to lock or unlock but the position switch never confirmed completion. Almost exclusively appears in connection with self-clean cycles.
GE Lock Types by Era
Bi-metal (older models): Heating element warms a bi-metal strip to push the lock lever. Takes 15-30 seconds to engage. Takes 2-5 minutes to release (strip must cool). F9 on this type usually means the heating element burned out.
Motorized (newer models): DC motor drives a cam mechanism. Engages in 5-10 seconds, releases quickly. F9 on this type indicates a jammed cam, worn gear teeth, or dead motor.
