An Elisii unit door that does not seal costs cooling continuously and shows up as frost, condensation and a unit that runs without stopping. Because these machines are installed by whoever unboxes them, alignment and levelling come before a new gasket: most seals that appear to have failed are clean-and-adjust cases rather than replacements. The paper test settles it in a minute.
What you are seeing
- The seal feels sticky and drags when the door opens — Residue rather than damage, and it is cleaned rather than replaced.
- A door ajar alarm on a door that is closed — A switch or a sensor rather than the gasket.
- The door swings back open, or does not pull itself shut — Levelling, hinge wear or an overloaded door.
- The unit runs almost continuously — A continuous air leak means the cooling never finishes its job.
- NEAR MISS: a gasket that looks creased after delivery — A gasket stored folded can relax back into shape.
What is usually behind it, in order
- Gasket dirty, sticky, flattened or torn — The leading cause here: cleaning it with warm soapy water restores a surprising number of seals, which is why that comes before any part. Clean first, test with paper second, replace last.
- Cabinet out of level, or the door out of alignment — Second: a cabinet tipped forward lets the door swing open, and one twisted on an uneven floor puts the door out of square so the gasket cannot meet the frame evenly.
- Door switch, ajar alarm or the closing mechanism — Third: a cam or closing mechanism that has worn stops the door pulling itself the last fraction, which reads as a gasket problem.
The order of checks, and why
- Close the door on a slip of paper and pull at several points — Easy withdrawal marks the gap; compare the suspect edge with a good one.
- Check the level in both directions and the gap along each door edge — An uneven gap is geometry rather than a worn gasket.
- Watch whether the interior light goes out as the door closes — A light that stays on is a switch fault and it also means a warming cabinet.

- Test the seal with a slip of paper at several points on each door — Mark where it pulls out easily.

The line between a fix and a call
Cleaning, levelling, unloading a door and the paper test are owner work, and they fix most seal complaints outright. Gasket replacement, hinge adjustment and the door switch are better done by somebody with the part and the tolerances.
