Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Lint is combustible, so clean the filter every cycle and the duct at least annually, never bridge a thermal fuse, never vent a dryer into the room, and stop using a machine that has smelled of burning. On gas models, if you smell gas: do not switch anything on or off, leave the building, and call the gas utility or your emergency number from outside.
