Electrolux Washer E13: Mid-Cycle Water Level Decline
Perfect Steam Interference Pattern
Electrolux models equipped with Perfect Steam inject pressurized steam during selected wash phases. Steam occupies drum volume differently than liquid: it expands against the tub air space and briefly alters the pressure reading at the level sensor. On certain firmware versions (2019-2021 production), this pressure fluctuation registers as a level decline, producing E13 during the steam injection window.
Test for steam false-positive: Select a cycle without the steam option enabled. Run a complete load. If E13 does not appear without steam, the sensor is reacting to the injection event rather than detecting an actual water loss.
Electrolux released firmware corrections for affected model years. Contact Electrolux support (1-877-435-3287) with your model and serial to check availability.

Genuine Causes of E13
When E13 appears on non-steam cycles or on models without Perfect Steam:
Standpipe siphon. If the standpipe accepts the drain hose without an air gap and another fixture drains simultaneously, negative pressure in the standpipe pulls water from the washer tub. Ensure the drain hose creates an air break at the standpipe (hose sits loosely in the standpipe opening, not sealed).
Boot gasket perforation at the lower fold. The Electrolux boot gasket has a deep accordion fold at the bottom that traps small objects. Coins, underwire tips, and button pins accumulate in this fold and gradually wear through the rubber. The perforation leaks only during wash agitation when water splashes against the lower boot area.
SmartBoost premix drain-back. The SmartBoost premix chamber connects to the main tub through a one-way valve. If this valve degrades, water slowly drains from the tub back through the premix chamber during the cycle. This is specific to Electrolux and does not occur on Frigidaire models.
Diagnostic Access for Boot Inspection
The Electrolux boot gasket is thicker and heavier than Frigidaire equivalents, reflecting higher-grade rubber compounds. Inspection requires folding the boot inward completely. Run your fingers along the entire inner surface of the lower fold while pressing firmly. A perforation feels like a thin spot or rough edge. Liquid test: fill the bottom fold with a small amount of water and watch for seepage.

FAQ
Is the E13 steam false-positive dangerous? No. No water is actually lost. The sensor misinterprets steam pressure fluctuation as a level decline. Washing continues normally.
How do I check the SmartBoost premix valve? Access the premix chamber from behind the top panel. Pour a small amount of water into the chamber inlet. Water should pass through toward the tub but not drain back. If it drains back within 30 seconds, the one-way valve has degraded.
Does the Electrolux boot gasket wear differently than Frigidaire? The Electrolux boot is thicker rubber with a deeper fold that traps more debris. The deeper fold provides better door sealing but creates a larger debris collection area.
