Read the data plate first
A builder-supplied refrigerator usually arrives without paperwork, so the household has no manual and no code table. The data plate inside the cabinet identifies the OEM platform, and that is what makes a displayed code mean anything at all.
What you are seeing
- A code or symbol on the display with no manual to explain it.
- Settings that appear to make no difference.
- A display that is dim, flickering or partly missing.
- Buttons that respond intermittently.
- The appliance ignoring its set point and running continuously.
- Not this fault: A completely dead appliance is a start fault - read the will-not-start page.
- Not this fault: A warm cabinet with a normal display is usually airflow rather than control.
Most likely causes, in builder-installed order
- No documentation, so a normal indication is read as a fault — Why ranked: First on this class of appliance. Demo mode, a filter reminder and a door alarm are all mistaken for faults when there is no manual.
- Display or panel losing contact — Why ranked: Second: a ribbon or connector at the door hinge works loose with use.

- Check whether the display fails only when the door is moved. — Because: That points at a connector at the hinge rather than the board.

Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Never spray cleaner at a control panel. A refrigerator holds food safely at 40 F (4 C) or below - judge the appliance by a thermometer rather than by its display. Trust a thermometer over any displayed number. Let a wet panel dry fully before restoring power. Do not attempt a service-mode sequence found for a different platform.
When this becomes a service call
A code returns immediately after a full power cycle. The display and a thermometer disagree persistently. The panel fails when the door is moved. Settings make no difference to a measured temperature.
