A light door, a small margin
A compact cabinet has a light door and a thin magnetic seal, and both are easily distorted - by being packed too full, by standing on an uneven surface, or by a door that is simply never pushed shut. A small cabinet loses its temperature immediately when the seal is not made.
What you are seeing
- The door does not close fully on its own.
- Condensation on the door frame or the shelf edge.
- Heavy frost on the cold plate.
- The seal is soft, wavy or lifted from its channel.
- A visible gap along one edge of the door.

What to check, in order
- Open the door and look at whether anything reaches past the shelf line. — Because: A bottle in the door rack is the most common single cause here.
- Let the door go from a small angle and see whether it closes. — Because: A cabinet that tilts forward will not self-close, which leads to it being left ajar.
- Run a finger along the seal for waves, soft spots and lifted sections. — Because: A distorted seal can often be pressed back rather than replaced.
- Close the door on a paper strip at several points and check it grips. — Because: Even resistance means the seal is fine and the problem is elsewhere.

Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. A refrigerator holds food safely at 40 F (4 C) or below - a small cabinet left ajar warms very quickly, so judge its contents by time and temperature. Never wedge or tape a door to close a gap. Do not stack items on top of a light cabinet; it makes it tip forward. Keep the cabinet clear of the wall so the door can open fully.
When this becomes a service call
A gap remains after levelling and cleaning the seal. The seal is split or will not stay in its channel. The hinge is loose and the door has dropped. The cabinet cannot hold temperature with a proven good seal.
