The module is protecting the battery
A DC compressor refrigerator that will not run is almost always being refused by its own protection rather than being broken. The module watches supply voltage and shuts down below a threshold, and on a boat or a van that threshold is met more often than anyone expects.
What you are seeing
- The compressor never starts although the unit has power.
- It runs for a short time and shuts down repeatedly.
- It runs with the engine running and not otherwise.
- An indicator light flashes a repeating pattern.
- It stopped as the battery bank ran down.

Most likely causes, in Dometic order
- Supply voltage below the module cutout — Why ranked: First on a DC unit. It is protection working as designed, and it is far more common than any component fault.
- Voltage drop in the cable run or at a corroded connection — Why ranked: Second: the bank is healthy and the module still sees low volts, which points at the cable and its terminations.
- Battery isolator, fuse or breaker open — Why ranked: Third. DC installations have several disconnection points and any one of them leaves the unit dead.
- Corroded terminals in a marine environment — Why ranked: Fourth. Salt attacks terminations, and a high-resistance joint behaves exactly like an undersized cable.
- Compressor module or compressor failure — Why ranked: Last, and what remains once voltage at the module is proven good under load.
What to check, in order
- Try the unit with the engine running or on shore charge. — Because: If it starts, the fault is the supply and not the refrigerator.
- Count any flashing pattern on the indicator and write it down. — Because: These modules report their reason by flash count, and it is the most useful thing you can note.
- Check every fuse, breaker and isolator between battery and unit. — Because: DC installations have several disconnection points and each one is a candidate.
- Look at the terminals for corrosion and heat discolouration. — Because: In a marine environment a corroded joint is the usual cause of unexplained low voltage.

Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Isolate at the battery switch before touching any DC connection - a twelve volt circuit delivers enough current to melt a tool and start a fire. Never bridge or bypass a fuse in a DC circuit. Do not work on DC terminals with rings or a metal watch on. Have corroded marine terminations replaced rather than cleaned repeatedly.
When this becomes a service call
The unit will not run with proven good voltage at its module. An indicator flashes a repeating fault pattern that persists on shore charge. Terminals are corroded, warm or discoloured. A fuse blows again after replacement.
