The short version
Standing water in a Dacor dishwasher is rarely a pump failure. Work along the path the water has to take — filter, sump, hose, air gap, disposer — and the obstruction is usually obvious before the pump is ever suspected. Keep the machine in mind — a luxury built-in line specified into a designed kitchen and expected to run quietly for a long time — rather than the category average.
What you observe
- Water stands in the base after every cycle — The pump either cannot move it or cannot move it past an obstruction.
- The machine hums during the drain phase but nothing leaves — The pump is being driven and something is in its way.
- Debris and standing water in the filter housing — The filter has done its job and nobody has emptied it.
- NEAR MISS — a leak on the floor rather than water inside — That is the water-leak page and its causes are different.
Causes, most likely first on this line
- Disposer knockout plug never removed — It presents as a machine that has never drained properly since installation. Ranked first here because the mechanical parts are heavy-duty and long-lived, so on this line the electronics and their inputs sit above the machinery in any honest ranking.
- Filter and sump clogged — The filter stack collects everything the wash removes, and once it is full the water cannot reach the pump inlet at all. Second, because this is a built-in platform with a lot of sensing and a lot of self-protection, so the machine usually stops itself for a reason it has detected rather than failing outright.
- Drain hose kinked or blocked — A hose crushed behind the machine when it was pushed back, or silted along its length, restricts the flow the pump can produce.
- Drain pump impeller jammed — Clearing it is possible from inside the sump on many machines, but the terminals below are live.
- Drain pump or its control failed — A pump that is silent during the drain phase is either not being commanded or has failed electrically.
What to check first, second, third
- Ask whether the machine has ever drained properly since it was installed — First — A fault that dates from installation points at the connection rather than at a part.
- Lift the filter stack out and look at the sump beneath it — Second — It is the start of the drain path and the place blockages accumulate.
- Pull the machine forward and follow the drain hose to its connection — Third — Kinks and crush damage are visible, and they explain a pump that runs without result.
What an owner can safely check
- Remove and clean the filter stack — Rinse it under a tap, brush the mesh, and clear the sump and the drain screen beneath.

- STOP before removing the pump cover or reaching under the sump — Live terminals and broken glass share that space; it is a service job.

The owner side is bailing, the filter, the sump and the visible hose run. That resolves most drainage complaints. Mention the installation when you call — these appliances are integrated into cabinetry, levelled against adjacent units and fed from a dedicated supply.
