What you are looking at
A refrigerator display that is blank, flashing, or showing a code is usually reporting a sensor or a door it cannot reconcile, and much of what looks like a control fault is a demonstration mode or a power interruption. A door switch stuck or misread is the first thing to suspect on a Crosley Professional, because a heavy door on a tall cabinet loads its hinges every time it swings, and the gasket is what gives up first. - A membrane panel with failed buttons — Second on the list: Where some buttons work and others never do, the fault is in the panel rather than in the control behind it.
- A temperature sensor out of range — Third on the list: A sensor reading impossibly high or low makes the control behave strangely — running continuously, not running at all, or displaying a code. Check in this order, and why
- Press each door switch by hand and watch the light and listen for the fan — A light that stays on or off regardless of the switch is a direct finding. It goes first because it is the cheapest thing to rule out and it decides which half of this list you are in.
- Map which buttons respond — A pattern to the dead buttons makes it a panel fault rather than an electronic one.
- Compare the displayed temperature with a thermometer in a glass of water in the cabinet — A large disagreement between display and reality is a sensor story.

Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Refrigerant is licensed work: oil or a hiss at the compressor means stop and call, and two people move a cabinet this size.
