What you are looking at
A dishwasher that does nothing is usually not being fed or is not seeing its door latched, and both of those are checked from the front of the machine in a couple of minutes. The reason a worn touch panel or start button heads the ranking on a Crosley is simple: on a machine that has been in the same place for years, the parts that have been moving all that time are where the fault usually is. The switch under the sink, the breaker, the door latch and a control lock are owner checks; the rest is not. The order below is written for a long-service machine in a settled installation; on a unit that was installed or moved in the last few weeks, setup and supply faults rank above everything here.
What you observe
- Lights come on but the cycle never starts — A latch or lock condition, or a delay setting.
- It beeps or flashes when start is pressed — The control is refusing rather than failing.
- It starts only when the door is pushed hard as it latches — A door switch that is barely making.
- NEAR MISS — It runs silently and does nothing useful — Check the fill — a machine that cannot fill runs its programme with no water.
Causes, most likely first
- A worn touch panel or start button — Most likely here: on a machine that has been in the same place for years, the parts that have been moving all that time are where the fault usually is. On a panel where some buttons work and others never do, the fault is in the panel layer rather than the electronics behind it.
- An isolating switch or spur turned off — Second on the list: Most built-in dishwashers are fed from a switched spur in a cupboard or beside the worktop, and it gets switched off by accident more often than anything actually fails.
- The water supply turned off — Third on the list: Some machines will not begin at all without water present, and the isolating valve under the sink is often closed after other plumbing work.
- A door latch that is not closing the switch — Fourth on the list, and the least likely: The latch has to pull the door fully home; a misaligned door, a loaded rack catching the front or a worn strike leaves it a fraction short. A cabinet that has been in several rooms has usually been dragged at least once, and the door is what goes out of true.
Check in this order, and why
- Note which buttons respond and whether there is a pattern — A row or a corner of dead buttons is a panel fault. Start here on a settled machine: it is the most likely finding and the fastest to prove either way.
- Find the isolating switch for the machine and confirm it is on — It is usually above the worktop beside the machine or inside the sink cupboard.
- Check the small valve on the supply under the sink — A quarter-turn handle across the pipe is closed; in line with it is open.

- Switch the spur off and on, then cycle the breaker fully — Prove both, in that order, before anything else is considered.

Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Close the taps before any hose comes off, and never bypass a door or lid switch to run the machine open.

Call once the spur and breaker are proven, the door latches firmly, no lock or delay is set and the supply valve is open — beyond that the checks are inside the door and on live terminals.
