What you are looking at
A dishwasher that leaves grit, film or wet dishes is almost always being stopped by something simple — a blocked spray arm, a full filter, a cold fill or a load that blocks the water from reaching itself. Loading that blocks the water or the detergent door is the first thing to suspect on a Crosley, because these units change homes more than most, and levelling, hose routing and venting are what the move breaks first. Filters, spray arms, loading and rinse aid are owner work; a wash pump or a heater fault behind them is not.
What you observe
- Dishes come out wet at the end — Rinse aid, final rinse temperature or plastic load items rather than a fault.
- Grit or food debris left on the dishes — Water is not reaching everything, or the filter is returning debris to the load.
- A white film or spots on glassware — Hard water and rinse aid, or too little detergent for the water.

- No rinse aid, or salt not topped up where the machine uses it — Ranked fourth, and last: Rinse aid controls how water sheets off the load, which decides both spotting and drying; without it dishes dry with the minerals still on them. What to check first, second, third
- Look at whether the dispenser door can open fully — A tablet found undissolved in the dispenser at the end of the cycle is a loading fault, not a machine fault. Start here: on this platform it is both the most likely finding and the quickest to confirm.
- Spin each spray arm by hand before a cycle — An arm that catches on a dish or does not spin freely is the fault, and it is visible in seconds.
- Lift the filter and look at both the mesh and the sump under it — A greasy mesh with debris beneath explains gritty results exactly.
The checks you can do yourself
- Reload with space between items and nothing in front of the dispenser — Face soiled surfaces towards the centre, keep tall items to the sides and leave the arms free to sweep.

Call when the arms spin freely with clear jets, the filter is clean, rinse aid is topped up and loading is sensible, and the results are still poor — that leaves the pump, the heater and the diverter.
