The short answer
On the Costway FP washer family a washer that will not drain is usually blocked rather than broken: the pump filter where one is fitted, the drain hose, or a coin trapped in the pump. The brand-generic article leads with the pump because it covers every chassis; on these models the obstructions come first because they are more common and cost nothing to clear.
What you see on the FP family
- Water standing in the tub at the end of the cycle — The defining symptom, and the machine will usually refuse to spin until the water is gone.
- The machine hums at the drain step and nothing moves — The pump is being driven and something is stopping it, most often a coin or a scrap of fabric in the impeller.
- It drains very slowly rather than not at all — A partial restriction in the filter, the hose or the standpipe rather than a complete blockage.
- The load comes out soaking because the spin never ran — Most machines refuse to spin with water in the tub, so a drain fault reads as a spin fault.
Causes, most likely first on the FP family
- Pump impeller jammed by a foreign object — Ranked first on the FP family — A hum with no flow after the filter is clean is this and very little else on these models. Coins and underwire work past the tub and wedge the impeller. The motor then hums and the impeller does not turn, which is a distinctive and useful sound.
- Pump filter or coin trap blocked — Second — it is the cheapest point in the drain path and often the whole answer. Where a machine has an accessible filter it collects coins, hair clips, buttons and lint until flow drops to nothing.
- Drain hose kinked, crushed or badly routed — Third — and always worth a look behind the machine before any panel comes off. A hose crushed against the wall when the machine was pushed back, or a hose pushed too far down a standpipe, stops or siphons the drain.
- Drain pump failed, or the standpipe is blocked — Fourth — and the only group here that is not owner work on these models. A pump that has actually failed is silent at the drain step.

Check in this order, and why
- 1. Bail or drain the standing water first — Use the drain hose lowered into a bucket, or bail it.
- 2. Open the pump filter where one is fitted — It is usually behind a small door at the front lower corner.
- 3. Start a drain cycle and listen — Hum with no flow means a jammed impeller; silence means the pump is not being driven, and those are different repairs.
- Body: The stems in the FP family share their layout, so the order below holds across the table; where a stem differs it differs at the cabinet, not at the part you are reaching for.

Call when the filter is clean, the hose is clear and unkinked, the standpipe drains freely and the machine is still silent at the drain step: that puts the fault at the pump or its wiring, behind a panel on these models.
