The short answer
Most Contoure dryer noise is a loose object, a worn support or an installation rather than a failing motor, and the timing of the sound tells you which. On this class the usual cause is the machine touching joinery, a pipe or a wall, with a machine out of level or resting against something next to rule out.
What you actually observe
- The noise fills the coach rather than coming from the machine — Joinery couples everything to everything else.
- A rattle that happens only with a load in — That points at what is in the drum rather than at the machine.
- NEAR MISS: a burning smell with the noise — Stop the machine now and clear the vent before running it again, whatever else is wrong.
The causes, most likely first on this brand
- The machine touching joinery, a pipe or a wall — A cabinet resting against anything passes its vibration straight into it, so a contact point makes a sound machine seem broken. Ranked first on a Contoure unit: a coach machine is screwed into joinery on every side, so its ordinary vibration becomes the whole cabin's problem.
- A machine out of level or resting against something — A dryer that rocks on two feet, or that touches a wall or a washer beside it, passes its ordinary vibration into whatever it is against. Ranked second here: a coach is never level twice and the machine notices every time.
- The condenser assembly or its pump on a ventless machine — Ranked third here: a ventless machine runs a pump that a vented one does not, and periodic noises from it are normal until the tank or filter blocks.
- Coins, zips or buttons loose in the drum or the blower — Small hard objects work out of pockets and either tumble noisily with the load or pass into the blower housing, where they rattle against the fan on every revolution. Ranked fourth here: last, and still worth turning the drum by hand to rule out.
Check in this order, and why this order
- Look for shiny rub marks where the machine meets anything around it — A rub mark is a contact point and it is visible without moving anything.
- Push each top corner in turn and see whether the noise changes — A sound that shifts under a hand is a mounting problem rather than a component one.
- Note whether the sound happens periodically rather than continuously — A noise every few minutes on a ventless machine is usually the pump doing its job.
What an owner can safely check
- Pull the machine clear of every surface and leave a finger's gap all round — Also check the duct is not pressed hard against the cabinet.

Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the dryer or switch off its breaker before reaching past the drum or removing any panel. If you smell gas, do not switch anything on or off, leave the building, and call the gas utility or your emergency number from outside. A burning smell with a noise means stopping the machine and clearing the vent, because lint is the fuel in almost every dryer fire. The blower wheel keeps turning after the motor stops and its edges are sharp.
When to call a technician
Call once the drum, the level and the duct are all clean and the noise keeps time with the drum or ignores the load entirely, because rollers, belts and motor bearings all need the machine largely dismantled. Stop immediately and call if the noise comes with a burning smell. Bear in mind when you decide that an RV appliance is serviced by RV dealers rather than by household appliance technicians, and the warranty usually runs through the dealer who sold the coach.
