The short answer
A Comfee CERT refrigerator that has gone quiet on ice is usually telling you the compartment is running warm, not that a motor died. Where a model does have an automatic ice maker, it is a small unit with a narrow fill path. That is why the checks below start with the cold rather than with the ice maker itself.
What the owner sees and hears
- Cubes carry a stale flavour — Odour transfer means slow production and long storage, which is again a rate problem.
- Food in the freezer gives to a finger — If the food is soft, the ice maker is a bystander — the cooling side is the problem.
- Cubes are small, hollow or misshapen — Hollow shells mean the mould was harvested early.
- Ice takes far longer than it used to — A compartment that has lost a few degrees still looks frozen and still makes ice — just not enough of it.
- NEAR MISS — the whole cabinet is warm — That is a cooling failure and it has its own page; ice is only the earliest symptom of it.
Causes, most likely first on the CERT line
- Shut-off arm or sensor reading full — Placed here because the symptom is dramatic and the cause is trivial — which is exactly the combination worth checking early.
- Too little cold where the mould sits — First on this family because the compartment is small and hard-worked, and ice is the first thing to suffer when it drifts.
- A slow fill that froze in the tube — It ranks below temperature because it applies only to plumbed models.
- A kinked line behind the cabinet — Ranked at this level because it is quick to check once the cabinet is pulled out.
What to check first, second, third
- Measure the compartment before touching the mechanism — Leave a thermometer beside the tray overnight rather than trusting the dial.
- Unpack the compartment and look at the air path — On these compartments one badly placed package is enough to close the path.
- Check the shut-off arm or sensor position — If the arm is held up by the bin, nothing downstream will ever run.
- Inspect where the water enters the compartment — If it refreezes within a day or two, the fault is in the supply, not in the tube.

Thaw ice out rather than forcing it — a punctured mould turns a free fix into a parts job. If you disturb the water line, shut the supply off first and check the joint afterwards for weeping. Check the frozen food before you chase the ice: a freezer holds food safely at 0 °F (−18 °C) or below, and soft food means the fault is bigger than the ice maker.

When to call a technician
If the supply valve needs replacing, that is a job with the water off. The line is the cold side: a warm compartment is a different repair.
