The short answer
Dead panel or a panel that lights and will not run: the two are different faults. The first is power, the second is almost always the door. That puts the door latches are not making their switches at the top of the list here and a power strip or a shared counter outlet at the bottom.
What the machine is doing
- No display and no light at all — A supply symptom — outlet, breaker or a blown internal fuse.
- It works on some programmes and not others — A keypad fault rather than a supply or interlock one.

Likely causes on this kind of machine
- The door latches are not making their switches — A microwave has several interlocks in series. One that is not made stops everything with the display still lit. First on a badged machine because the door hardware is the lowest-cost assembly in the build and it is the assembly that takes every open and close.
- No power at the outlet — A tripped breaker, a GFCI on a kitchen counter circuit or a switched outlet. It is the first thing to prove and the cheapest to fix. A machine installed in bulk by a developer often lands on whatever outlet was nearest, and a shared or marginal circuit follows the machine for its whole life.
- A child lock or a demo mode — A locked panel accepts nothing, and demo mode runs the display with the magnetron disabled. Generic control boards are the shared part across every badge on this platform, so a control fault here is a platform fault rather than a brand one.
- A power strip or a shared counter outlet — A microwave next to a kettle and a toaster finds the limit of a shared circuit, and the strip is the first thing to fail.
The diagnostic order
- Plug something else into the same outlet — It settles the supply question in seconds.
- Reset the breaker and any GFCI on the counter circuit — Kitchen counter outlets are commonly protected.
- Try the machine on a completely different circuit — It removes both the outlet and the counter circuit from the picture in one move.
- Press each key in turn and note which respond — A pattern of dead keys tells you it is the panel rather than the supply.
The owner-side procedure
- Move the machine to a known-good outlet — Directly into the wall, not through a power strip or extension lead.
- Clear any child lock or demo mode — Follow the panel sequence, or unplug for a few minutes and let the control reboot.
- STOP — do not open the cabinet for any reason — A microwave holds a high-voltage capacitor that can retain a lethal charge long after it is unplugged.

When to stop and call
There is very little owner work here by design. If a different outlet, a clean door and a cleared lock do not bring it back, the next step is a technician or a replacement decision.
