What you are most likely looking at
A blank or unresponsive dryer panel is usually a lock, a supply problem or a safety device that has opened — in that order. That puts a control lock at the top of the list here and a loose connector at the bottom.
What owners actually report
- A code or a flashing pattern on the panel — A named condition; write it down exactly.
- The machine forgets settings between cycles — A supply event or a failing control.
- The display works but the machine will not run — The control is fine; something it monitors is not.
- NEAR MISS — completely dead with no display — That is supply or a thermal fuse, and it is the no-start page.
Causes, most likely first on this unit
- A control lock — A held button locks the panel on most machines, and it is set by accident more than any other setting. Electronics are checked here because a mode or a lock imitates a dead machine and costs nothing to clear.
- A code reporting another system — Door, temperature, airflow and sensing all raise codes. The code names where to look. Sensors drift rather than fail, so they are considered before the board they feed.
- A supply event or a half-lost supply — A machine with one leg of its supply missing behaves very strangely, and the control is the first thing blamed. Supply is proved before anything is condemned, because a dead outlet and a dead appliance look identical.
- Damp in the panel — Laundry rooms are humid and the panel is the coldest surface on the machine.
- A loose connector — Vibration and heat cycling loosen connectors over years.
The order of checks
- Write the code down exactly as displayed — Letters, digits and their order matter.
- Hold the control-lock button for several seconds — It explains most unresponsive panels and costs nothing.
- Cut power at the breaker for a few minutes — One clean reset separates a stuck state from a live fault.
- Check both halves of the double breaker — Half a supply produces symptoms that look like a control fault.
Step by step, as far as it is safe to go
- Clear the control lock and run a short timed cycle — A timed cycle bypasses the sensing circuit and tells you what still works.
- Power the machine down at the breaker and back up — Leave it off a few minutes so the control loses its state.
- Check the system the code names — door, vent, filter — Most dryer codes point at something reachable without tools.
- STOP before opening the console or the control housing — Mains wiring sits directly behind the panel.
Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the dryer or switch off both halves of its double breaker before opening the console — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Never bypass a thermal device to clear a code.

Locks, resets and the systems a code names are yours. Timers, boards, harnesses and thermal devices are service work.
