The short answer
A dryer dries by moving hot air through the load and taking the moisture away. Poor results mean one of those two halves is failing. That puts a restricted or too-long vent duct at the top of the list here and laundry going in too wet at the bottom.
What owners actually report
- Clothes are hot but still damp — Heat is present, moisture is not leaving.
- The cycle ends early with the load wet — A moisture sensor reading the load as dry.
- Only heavy items stay damp — A load-size or a sorting problem rather than a fault.
- NEAR MISS — no heat at all — That is the heating page, and it is a different list.
What causes this, in order of likelihood here
- A restricted or too-long vent duct — Every bend and every metre of duct costs airflow. A crushed flexible hose behind the machine is the most common single finding. First on this class of machine because the vent, the lint path and the blower are what the platform depends on, and they are also what nobody services until something stops working.
- A filmed or blocked lint filter — Softener residue makes a filter look clean while passing almost no air. Air distribution decides what the owner feels, so a blocked path outranks the components behind it.
- Overloading, or mixing heavy with light — Clothes must tumble to present wet surfaces to the air. A packed drum simply rotates as a lump. Load habits drive most of the complaints on an imported machine: capacity is honest but it is not generous, and an overloaded drum produces symptoms that read as failures.
- An outside hood that will not open — A stuck flap, a lint mat or a bird nest stops the exhaust leaving.
- Laundry going in too wet — If the washer is not spinning properly, the dryer inherits the problem.
Where to start, and what each check rules out
- Hold the lint filter up to the light — If you cannot see daylight through it clearly, it is filmed.
- Look behind the machine at the flexible hose — A crushed hose is the commonest install fault, and it is free to correct.
- Wipe the moisture sensor bars inside the drum — A quick wipe with a little vinegar removes the film that ends cycles early.
The checks you can do without a meter
- Wash the lint filter and dry it fully — Warm soapy water and a soft brush removes the softener film.

- Check the outside hood flap opens fully — Clear lint, nests and anything that has grown across it.
- Dry a single medium load and compare — One consistent load is the only way to judge whether anything changed.
- STOP before removing the blower housing or the drum — Both mean dismantling a mains-wired machine.
Before you open anything
Safety
Lint is flammable, and a duct full of it is the main fire risk in a laundry. Unplug the dryer before pulling it out or opening anything — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off — and never vent a dryer into the room.
When to call a technician
Filters, ducts, hoods and loading are yours, and they solve most drying complaints. Blowers, heaters and sensor circuits are service work.
