What this usually is
Machines do not stop at random: they stop where a condition was not met. Noting the stage it stops at is most of the diagnosis. That puts a fill that never completes at the top of the list here and a supply dip at the bottom.
How this presents
- The cycle finishes in minutes — A fault has ended it early, normally with a code that cleared itself.
- Cycle time stretches far beyond the stated duration — Usually heat: the machine holds the stage until the water reaches temperature.
- The machine drains and stops at the start of the cycle — A leak-detection or float trip, which is a protective stop rather than a failure.
- NEAR MISS — nothing happens when start is pressed — That is a no-start and it has its own page.
Causes, most likely first on this unit
- A fill that never completes — A closed valve, a blocked inlet screen or a weak supply leaves the machine waiting for water it can measure but not get. Plumbed premium units carry a filter, a valve and a long internal tube run, every one of which is a candidate the moment water appears.
- A drain that does not clear in time — The machine will not move to the next stage until the sump is empty, so a blocked filter stalls the whole programme. Drainage is where water that the machine made on purpose goes wrong, so it leads whenever water is the complaint.
- A leak-detection float that has tripped — Water in the base tray triggers a protective drain-and-stop, and it will not clear until the tray is dry. Ranked next because the boards act on what the sensors report: a sensor reading wrongly produces behaviour that looks like a failed component somewhere else entirely.
- A supply dip — A brownout can reset a control mid-cycle, which presents as a restart with no code.
The order of checks
- Open the door and look for standing water — Water in the sump at a stall means the drain is the condition that failed.
- Check the supply valve under the sink is fully open — A partly closed valve slows the fill enough to stall a cycle.
- Tip the machine gently and listen for water in the base — A slosh means the leak float has tripped, which explains a protective stop.
What an owner can safely do
- Clean the filter and confirm the machine drains fully — A clear drain removes the commonest stall condition.

- Open the water valve fully and run a short cycle — Watch that the fill sound stops rather than continuing indefinitely.
- Power-cycle at the breaker and run a rinse-only programme — A short programme shows where it stalls without an hour of waiting.
- STOP before removing the base tray or testing the float switch — That means tipping a plumbed machine and working next to mains wiring.

Do not tip or pull out a plumbed and wired machine to look underneath — the connections are short and stiff. Cut power at the breaker before any panel comes off, and remember a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off.
When to stop and call
Filters, valves and a power-cycle are yours. A float trip, a heating stall or a control fault is service work, and a repeated leak trip should not be reset and ignored.
