The answer first
A door either pulls itself shut and touches all the way round, or it does not. On a Buzz refrigerator that single test decides most of what follows. That puts a gasket that has taken a set or lost its magnet at the top of the list here and a door switch that is not being made at the bottom.
How this presents
- A visible gap, usually at one top corner — A dropped door shows first at the corner furthest from the hinge.
- The gasket is hard, cracked or has a permanent flat section — Gasket material takes a set with age and cold, and a flat section never comes back on its own.
- NEAR MISS — water pooling inside the base of the cabinet — That is usually a blocked defrost drain rather than a door fault, and it belongs on the leak page.
What causes this, in order of likelihood here
- A gasket that has taken a set or lost its magnet — The commonest cause by a distance. First on a glass-door beverage cabinet: the door is heavy, the gasket is a thin magnetic strip, and a door left resting rather than latched is the single most common reason one of these stops holding temperature.
- A gasket lifting out of its retaining channel — Cleaning and door slams work the edge of the gasket loose, and once it lifts, that section never touches again. A seal fault never announces itself — it just costs temperature all day — which is why it is checked early despite being unglamorous.
- A dropped or misaligned door — Heavy doors, loaded bins and years of use let the door settle. Glass doors on these cabinets are hinged for looks rather than for closing force, so a door that does not swing itself shut is a routine finding.
- A door switch that is not being made — A switch that never closes leaves the light on and a fan off inside a shut door, warming the cabinet with no visible gap at all.
Check in this order, and why
- Run a finger round the gasket for hard or flat sections — Age shows by feel before it shows by eye, and it tells you whether cleaning will help or not.
- Look at the gap at the top corner with the door shut — A door that has dropped is visible from a few steps back, and it is the check most owners skip.
- Check the interior light goes out when the door shuts — A light left on inside a closed cabinet is both a heat source and a proof of a switch fault.
Step by step, as far as it is safe to go
- Wash the gasket and the frame it meets — Warm soapy water, then dry.

- Rub a thin film of petroleum jelly onto a stiff gasket — It restores some flexibility on an old seal and stops it dragging as the door closes.

- STOP before loosening hinge bolts to realign a loaded door — A heavy door on a slackened hinge falls, and it takes the frame with it.

Safety
Never wedge, tape or magnet a door closed to work around a failing seal: it hides the fault and it defeats the door switch. Unplug the unit before anything beyond cleaning and levelling.
Where the owner side ends
Call when a gasket is split, has lost its magnet or will not stay in its channel, and whenever the door needs hinge work. A cabinet that cannot hold a safe temperature because of its door is a food-safety problem, not a cosmetic one.
