The answer first
A code is information, not a verdict. On a Buzz refrigerator the useful work is deciding which system the machine is complaining about and checking that system first. That puts a lock, demo or showroom mode at the top of the list here and a damper motor that has lost position at the bottom.
How this presents
- One compartment ignores its setting entirely — A damper or a sensor specific to that compartment.
- The panel works but the alarm will not clear — The condition is still present, or the alarm needs the door cycled to reset.
- The display dims or brightens on its own — A power-saving or showroom feature on many cabinets.
- NEAR MISS — the panel is completely dead and nothing runs — That is a no-power fault, and the supply is checked before anything else.
The causes, ordered
- A lock, demo or showroom mode — Every modern cabinet has at least one. Electronics are checked here because a mode or a lock imitates a dead machine and costs nothing to clear.
- A door switch or an alarm the unit is right about — A door alarm and a temperature alarm are the machine doing its job. Silencing them without finding out why is how a warm cabinet stays warm. Glass doors on these cabinets are hinged for looks rather than for closing force, so a door that does not swing itself shut is a routine finding.
- A door switch stuck in one position — It can suppress an alarm that should sound, or raise one that should not. The door carries the switches and the interlocks, so a door fault presents as a whole-machine fault.
- A damper motor that has lost position — One compartment then runs to its own rules regardless of what the panel is set to.
What to check first, second, third
- Write the code down exactly as shown — Digits, letters and the order matter, and the code is the fastest thing a technician can act on before arriving.
- Try the panel unlock sequence — Usually a button held for several seconds.
- Compare the display with a thermometer inside the cabinet — A disagreement proves a sensor problem rather than a cooling problem, and that changes everything that follows.
- Pull the power for a few minutes and let the control reboot — One clean reset separates a stuck state from a real fault. A symptom that returns is real.
What to try yourself
- Verify the actual temperature independently — A refrigerator is safe at 40 °F (4 °C) or below.

- Record the code and what the machine physically does — Runs constantly, never runs, runs and stops — that behaviour paired with the code is most of the diagnosis.
- STOP before opening the control housing — Sensors and boards are tested with a meter on live terminals behind a panel. That is where an owner check ends.

Control housings sit next to mains wiring. Kill the power at the breaker before opening one, and never probe a live board with the cabinet plugged in.
When to call a technician
Call when a code survives a clean power-down, when one compartment ignores its setting, or when the panel and a thermometer disagree. All three need a meter behind a panel.
