What you are most likely looking at
Gaskets fail slowly and silently. On a Bull refrigerator the cost shows up as runtime and frost long before anyone notices a gap. That puts humidity the cabinet was never designed for at the top of the list here and a cabinet that is not level at the bottom.
Symptoms, including the ones that mean something else
- Condensation or frost around the door frame — Warm room air is reaching cold surfaces.
- A visible gap, usually at one top corner — A dropped door shows first at the corner furthest from the hinge.
- NEAR MISS — ice building only on the freezer back wall — That is a defrost or airflow fault rather than a door one.
Causes, most likely first on this unit
- Humidity the cabinet was never designed for — In a humid garage or an unconditioned room, condensation appears on a perfectly good seal. The fix is the room, not the door. It leads on an island unit because the cabinet sits beside a working grill: the air it is asked to reject heat into is hotter than any kitchen.
- A gasket that has taken a set or lost its magnet — The commonest cause by a distance. Outdoor door gaskets take sun, cold nights and wind loading, so they take a set and stop sealing sooner than an indoor gasket does.
- A gasket lifting out of its retaining channel — Cleaning and door slams work the edge of the gasket loose, and once it lifts, that section never touches again. A seal fault never announces itself — it just costs temperature all day — which is why it is checked early despite being unglamorous.
- A cabinet that is not level — Doors are hung to close themselves on a cabinet standing slightly nose-high.
Where to start, and what each check rules out
- The paper test, all the way round the frame — Close the door on a sheet of paper and pull.
- Look at the gasket where it meets the hinge side — The channel usually lets go at a corner, and it is visible once you look for it.
- Watch the door close from the side, at eye level — A door that meets the frame unevenly is a hinge or levelling problem.
Step by step, as far as it is safe to go
- Level the cabinet so the door closes itself — Adjust the front feet until the unit does not rock and the door swings shut from a hand-width open.

- Clear the door bins and drawers that foul the swing — Pull out anything tall in the door, reseat every drawer and shelf, then try the door again.
- STOP before loosening hinge bolts to realign a loaded door — A heavy door on a slackened hinge falls, and it takes the frame with it.

Cleaning, levelling and clearing the swing are yours. A replacement gasket, a hinge realignment on a loaded door or a door switch are the technician side of the line, and a cabinet that cannot hold a safe temperature because of the door should not be left for weeks.
