Bosch Dishwasher Won't Fill — Water Supply & Valve Troubleshooting
When your Bosch dishwasher starts a cycle but the tub remains empty — no water enters despite the machine attempting to run — the issue lies in the water supply path. Bosch's dual-valve system (AquaStop hose valve + internal inlet valve BSH 00622058) means there are two electrically-controlled gates between your plumbing and the wash tub, plus the manual supply valve under the sink.
This guide covers the quick-check approach for identifying which component in the fill chain has failed. For detailed repair procedures on each component, see our comprehensive Bosch Dishwasher Won't Fill With Water guide.
5-Minute Quick Diagnosis
Before any disassembly, perform these checks in order:
Check 1: Is the Supply Valve Open? (30 seconds)
Look under the sink for the valve that feeds the dishwasher's braided supply hose. Ball valves (quarter-turn handle): handle must be parallel to the pipe. Gate valves (round handle): must be fully counterclockwise. If recently had plumbing work done, this is the most likely culprit — plumbers often close this valve and forget to reopen it.
Check 2: Is the AquaStop Hose Kinked? (30 seconds)
The AquaStop supply hose (the larger-diameter hose running from the supply valve to the dishwasher) must not have sharp bends or kinks. A kinked AquaStop hose can prevent water from passing even though both valves are technically open. Check where it bends from the valve to enter behind the dishwasher.
Check 3: Is E15 Active? (10 seconds)
If the display shows E15 (or all LEDs are flashing on non-display models), the AquaStop flood-protection has triggered. The system has detected water in the base pan and shut off the supply as a safety measure. E15 must be resolved before fill can resume — tilt the machine back 45 degrees to drain the base pan.
Check 4: Listen at Cycle Start (15 seconds)
Start a cycle and immediately put your ear near the water supply connection under the sink:
- Click + water rushing: Both valves opening. Problem is downstream (unlikely if tub stays empty)
- Click + no water: AquaStop valve opened but supply is restricted (valve partially closed, screen blocked, or kinked hose)
- No click + no water: AquaStop valve not opening (electrical connector issue, solenoid failure, or E15 active)
Check 5: Error Code? (10 seconds)
- E03 = Fill timeout. Machine tried to fill, detected no water after 5 minutes
- E15 = AquaStop triggered. Flood protection active
- No code but no fill = Possible door switch issue (machine hasn't actually started the cycle even though it appears to)

Common Fixes by Diagnosis Result
Supply Valve Was Closed
Simply open it fully. Run a cycle. Problem solved. No parts needed, no service call required.
AquaStop Hose Kinked
Carefully straighten the hose. If it has developed a permanent memory kink (the plastic/rubber has set in the bent position), you may need to replace the hose assembly. AquaStop hoses cannot be patched or modified — replace as a complete unit.
E15 Active (Base Pan Water)
- Turn off breaker
- Remove lower access panel (2x T20 Torx)
- Tilt machine back 45 degrees for 30 seconds (water flows from base pan into tub)
- Dry any remaining moisture with towels
- Level machine, restore power
- If E15 returns after running a cycle, there's an active internal leak that needs repair
Inlet Screen Blocked
- Turn off water supply
- Disconnect supply hose from inlet valve (10mm wrench)
- Clean the mesh screen with a toothbrush + vinegar
- Reconnect, verify no leaks
AquaStop Solenoid Failed
The internal valve in the AquaStop hose has burned out or mechanically stuck. Replace the entire AquaStop hose assembly (Bosch model-specific, $65–$120). Cannot be repaired.
Inlet Valve Solenoid Failed (BSH 00622058)
The dual-solenoid valve on the machine isn't opening when commanded. Test coil resistance (500–2000 ohms expected). Replace if open circuit. Parts: $35–$65.
Why Bosch Uses a Dual-Valve System
Other brands use a single inlet valve — if it fails open, water can flood the kitchen. Bosch's AquaStop philosophy adds the supply-hose valve as a second layer: even if the inlet valve fails open, the AquaStop valve (which is normally closed and only opens on command) prevents uncontrolled water entry. This redundancy provides better flood protection but means diagnosing "won't fill" requires checking two valves rather than one.

Bosch-Specific Fill Requirements
- Minimum water pressure: 20 PSI (Bosch recommends 40+ PSI for optimal performance)
- Maximum water pressure: 145 PSI (higher pressure can damage internal seals)
- Water temperature at inlet: 120°F recommended (the internal heater supplements, doesn't replace, hot water supply)
- Supply hose type: Must use the Bosch AquaStop hose (standard braided hoses don't include the safety valve)
- Connection fitting: 3/4" garden hose thread at the supply valve end
When to Call a Professional
- AquaStop hose replacement (involves disconnecting the machine and potentially pulling it from the cabinet)
- Inlet valve replacement (requires accessing behind the lower panel and working with water connections)
- Control board diagnosis (if both valves test good but fill signal isn't being sent)
- Recurrent E15 (indicates an active internal leak requiring systematic seal inspection)
