The short answer for these models
When start does nothing, the first question is whether the machine is awake. A dead panel sends you to the socket and the breaker; a lit panel sends you to the lid switch, the door lock and the taps. Very little of this needs a tool. What changes on the BCW models is the sequence rather than the diagnosis. A tap-adapter installation gives up its pressure and its drain height the moment the adapter slips, so a fault that looks electrical on a plumbed machine is usually mechanical on a portable one, which is why the supply and adapter checks belong at the top of the list here.
What you actually see
- Which form your BCW unit is — settle this first — Check what the fill hose connects to. A tap adapter can slip or kink; a wall valve cannot, and that changes the first suspect.
- It clicks or hums once and then stops — Something tried and gave up. A lid switch making and breaking, or a motor that cannot turn, both do this.
- It only starts if you press down on the lid or the door — Having to help the door shut means the interlock is only just being made, and it will fail completely soon.
- NEAR MISS — it starts, fills and then stops partway through — That is a cycle fault rather than a starting one, and the page about a cycle that stops midway is the right one.
Causes, most likely first on this family
- A control lock, a paused cycle or a delay timer — Machines are frequently found locked, paused or set to start later, and the panel does not always make that obvious. On a BCW unit this rises to the top of the order, because the identification step above changes what it proves — so the supply and adapter checks answer more in five minutes than the rest of the list answers in an hour.
- The timer, the control board or the motor — Last because it is the diagnosis of exclusion and because confirming it means a meter on terminals behind a panel.
What to check first, and why that order
- First — prove the socket is live — Plug something else into the same outlet, then check the breaker. A dead socket and a dead machine end the investigation here. On these models this is the step the construction changes: the answer only tells you something once you know which form the unit is.
- Second — check the taps and the inlet hoses — Open both taps fully, straighten the hoses behind the machine and look at the inlet screens. A machine waiting for water says nothing about it.
Before you open anything
Safety
Before any panel is disturbed, unplug the machine or switch off its breaker, because a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Check the socket with something else rather than testing terminals yourself. Leave the lid or door switch exactly as it is: it is the only thing standing between a hand and a moving drum.
Where the owner job ends
Book a visit once the socket, the breaker, the door or lid, the taps and the drain have all been checked and the machine still will not begin. Book at once if the breaker trips when the machine is plugged in, and do not keep resetting it.
