The short answer for these models
A refrigerator that hums away without getting cold has almost always stopped delivering cold air rather than stopped making it. Frost over the evaporator, a door that is no longer sealing and a condenser smothered in dust account for most of these, and all three are visible without a meter. The sealed system is the expensive answer and also the least likely one. Where this departs from the brand-level page is the ranking. A fan-cooled cabinet loses its cold to a blocked vent long before it loses it to a failing part, while a plate-cooled one loses it to frost thickness and to the door, so on a ZPJ unit the airflow and frost checks lead.
What you observe
- Before the list: which of the ZPJ forms is in front of you — Check the back wall of the cold compartment. Vented with a fan behind it, and the airway joins the suspect list; a plain frosting plate, and it does not.
- The compressor runs and never cycles off — Continuous running with no pause between cycles means the control is still calling for cold it is not getting.
- The sides or the back of the cabinet are hot to the touch — The flanks or the rear are warm enough to notice, which means the heat being removed has nowhere to go.
Causes, most likely first on this family
- The thermostat, the sensor or the control — A control that thinks the cabinet is already cold stops asking for more, and a sensor sitting in the wrong airstream reports a temperature nobody has. It is placed first on the ZPJ models rather than where the brand-level page puts it, because the form of the unit decides how much this can explain — which makes the airflow and frost checks the checks with the most to say.
- The sealed system or the compressor — It comes last because every cheap cause above has to be excluded before anyone opens a refrigerant circuit, which is licensed work.
The order the checks belong in
- First — shut the door on a strip of paper and pull — Do it at several points around the frame. Anywhere the paper slides out without resistance is a leak, and it takes a minute to find. On these models this is the step the construction changes: read the result against the form you identified first, because the same finding means different things on the two.
- Second — look at the cold source for frost — Get the shelves out of the way and look at the cold surface itself. What you are judging is thickness, and thickness is obvious once you can see it.
Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Nothing sharp and nothing hot goes near an evaporator: the tubing behind the ice is thin aluminium and a puncture ends the appliance rather than delaying it. The refrigerant circuit is sealed, pressurised and worked on under licence, so leave it entirely alone.
Where the owner job ends
Book the visit when the door seals, the vents, the condenser and the setting have all been checked and the cabinet still will not hold. Book it the same day if food is at risk, and say how long the unit runs between stops — a cabinet that never stops is a different fault from one that cycles normally and still runs warm.
