The short answer for these models
When the cabinet is warm but the machine is plainly running, the fault sits between the cold and the food, not in the compressor. That means airflow, the door, or heat the condenser cannot shed. Only after all three are clean is a sealed-system fault worth entertaining. Where this departs from the brand-level page is the ranking. A fan-cooled cabinet loses its cold to a blocked vent long before it loses it to a failing part, while a plate-cooled one loses it to frost thickness and to the door, so on a BRF unit the airflow and frost checks lead.
What you actually see
- The BRF form you own, which changes what the rest of this list means — One look at the rear wall settles it: a grille means the cold is delivered and can be blocked, a bare plate means the cold is the surface and cannot.
- Frost has built into a sheet rather than a dusting — Frost thick enough to hold a fingerprint has stopped being condensation and started being the obstruction.
- The compressor runs and never cycles off — There is no quiet period between cycles at any hour, which means the control has never been satisfied.
Causes, most likely first on this family
- A condenser that cannot shed its heat — It sits at this rank because the cabinet cannot cool below what it can throw away, and a smothered coil throws away very little. It is placed first on the BRF models rather than where the brand-level page puts it, because the form of the unit decides how much this can explain — which makes the airflow and frost checks the checks with the most to say.
- The sealed system or the compressor — Last, and deliberately so: it is the least common of the five and the only one that is not an owner job at any stage.
Check in this order, and why
- First — shut the door on a strip of paper and pull — Take a strip of paper round the whole frame rather than one corner of it. Seals fail locally, and one soft inch is enough to warm a cabinet. On these models this is the step the construction changes: what you found at the step above decides how much weight to give what you find here.
- Second — look at the cold source for frost — Get the shelves out of the way and look at the cold surface itself. What you are judging is thickness, and thickness is obvious once you can see it.

Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Never chip frost off an evaporator with a knife, a screwdriver or a hot-air gun: the tubing behind it is thin aluminium, it punctures easily, and a punctured line turns a repairable fault into a scrapped cabinet. Leave the sealed system alone entirely — it is closed, pressurised and worked on under licence.
Where the owner job ends
Book the visit when the door, the frost and the condenser have all come back clean, because at that point the remaining candidates are a control or the sealed system. Move the food first and say on the phone whether the compressor runs continuously — that one answer tells the technician which half of the machine to bring parts for.
