The short answer for these models
The water is nearly always condensate that has lost its way. A clogged drain hole, a cracked or displaced tray, or humid air condensing on a door that does not seal will all put water where you are finding it. Check the path before suspecting a pipe. The URBD models take the same faults in a different order: a fan-cooled cabinet loses its cold to a blocked vent long before it loses it to a failing part, while a plate-cooled one loses it to frost thickness and to the door, and the airflow and frost checks therefore come before anything else.
What you observe
- How your URBD unit is built — the check that comes before the list — Look for a grille or louvre inside the cabinet with a fan behind it. If one is there the cold is blown in and the airway is a suspect; if the cold comes off a bare plate it is not.
- A puddle at the back or under the middle — Rear water is nearer its source than front water, which makes it the easier of the two to trace.
- Ice building in the base of the compartment — A sheet of ice across the floor of the compartment, which is the same blocked drain caught a week earlier.
- NEAR MISS — the cabinet is also warm — Then the water is a consequence of a cooling fault, and the page about a unit that will not cool comes first.
Causes, most likely first on this family
- A door seal letting warm humid air in — A cabinet that is constantly condensing makes far more water than the drain was designed for, so a seal fault becomes a drain fault. On a URBD unit this rises to the top of the order, because the identification step above changes what it proves — so the airflow and frost checks answer more in five minutes than the rest of the list answers in an hour.
- The supply line, the fill valve or an internal joint — Last, and only on plumbed units: a genuine water-supply leak is rare and it is continuous rather than cyclical.
The order the checks belong in
- First — find the drain hole and test it — Water that sits in the hole rather than disappearing has told you the answer in one check. On these models this is the step the construction changes: what you found at the step above decides how much weight to give what you find here.
- Second — shut the door on a strip of paper — Run a paper strip round the whole door. Warm humid air is the raw material of every drop you are mopping up.

Safety
Isolate the unit at the plug or the breaker before any panel is opened, because a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Water and a live appliance do not mix: dry the floor before you work, and stand on something dry. Empty the cabinet before moving it, and get help with the weight rather than walking it on wet tiles.
Where the owner job ends
Call once the drain, the seal, the tray and the levelling are all accounted for, or the moment you find water coming from a supply line rather than from melt. Call immediately if water is reaching an electrical connection or a neighbouring appliance: at that point the leak stops being a nuisance and becomes a hazard.
