The short answer for these models
Work out whether the water is inside the cabinet or under it before anything else, because the two have different causes and different fixes. Inside is the drain; underneath is the tray, the levelling or, rarely, a supply line. Where this departs from the brand-level page is the ranking. A plumbed cabinet has a second source of water and a second thing to fail, and a page that ignores which one you have sends you looking in the wrong place, so on a HC unit the water-path checks lead.
What you observe
- Before the list: which of the HC forms is in front of you — Look behind for a supply line. Fitted, and water on the floor has two possible origins; absent, and every drop was condensed or melted inside the cabinet.
- A puddle at the back or under the middle — Rear water is nearer its source than front water, which makes it the easier of the two to trace.
- Ice building in the base of the compartment — A frozen puddle inside is a blocked drain caught earlier in the same story.
- NEAR MISS — the water is clean, cold and only appears near the ice compartment — That is an ice or fill-path fault rather than a drainage one, and the ice page covers it properly.
Causes, most likely first on this family
- The cabinet is not level, or the drain channel is not sloping — Water only runs where gravity sends it. A cabinet tipped forward sends melt over the sill instead of down the channel. The ranking moves here for a reason particular to these models: how the unit is built changes what this finding means. That is what puts the water-path checks ahead of everything else on the list.
- The supply line, the fill valve or an internal joint — It comes last because it is the least likely and because a real supply leak is usually obvious the moment you look behind the cabinet.
Check in this order, and why
- First — find the drain hole and test it — It sits at the lowest point of the cold compartment, usually behind or under the bottom shelf. Pour a little warm water in and watch whether it goes. On these models this is the step the construction changes: read the result against the form you identified first, because the same finding means different things on the two.
- Second — look at the tray over the compressor — This is where rear and centre puddles almost always begin, and it needs no tools to see.
Before you open anything
Safety
Isolate the unit at the plug or the breaker before any panel is opened, because a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Water and a live appliance do not mix: dry the floor before you work, and stand on something dry. Empty the cabinet before moving it, and get help with the weight rather than walking it on wet tiles.
Where the owner job ends
Call once the drain channel, the drip tray, the seals and, where fitted, the supply connection have all been checked and water is still arriving. Call at once if the water is warm, discoloured, or arriving fast enough to reach another room.
