The short answer
A Bertazzoni DW dishwasher that leaks is usually leaking at the door or from a hose connection rather than through a failed tub. On this family the door gasket, the fill and drain connections and overfilling from a stuck float or a faulty inlet valve account for most of it.
What an owner actually sees
- Water at the front edge soon after the wash starts — The door gasket or the door alignment. Look for a wet line down the inside of the door rather than only at the floor.
- Foam at the front edge later in the cycle — Overdosed or wrong detergent, or spilled rinse aid. The foam overwhelms a sound seal, and no part has failed.
- A pool that only appears while the machine fills — Inlet side — the fill hose, its fitting or the valve. Nothing downstream is wet.
- NEAR MISS — the machine also will not drain — A machine that leaks and holds water is overfilling or backing up, which is a drainage fault first.
What it usually turns out to be, in order
- Door gasket deformed, dirty or out of its channel — First on this family. The gasket takes a set where the door presses hardest, collects debris along its lower run, and can be pushed out of its channel by loading.
- Detergent or rinse-aid overdosing producing foam — Second, and free to eliminate. Foam climbs past a seal that water would not, and the leak looks identical from the floor.
- Fill or drain hose fitting loose, split or badly clamped — Third. Hoses are disturbed by every cabinet job and every appliance push-back, and a fitting that is merely weeping will only show during its own part of the cycle.
- Overfilling from a stuck float or a valve that will not close — Fourth. The tub is not leaking; it is being asked to hold more than it can, and the surplus leaves past the door.
Check in this order, and why
- 1. Run one cycle with dry paper under the front and both sides — Watch for which part of the cycle wets which piece of paper.
- 2. Run a cycle with no detergent at all — If the leak disappears, it was foam and the gasket is fine.
- 3. Inspect the gasket along its whole run with the door open — Feel for a flat spot, look for debris in the channel and check the gasket has not been pushed out of its groove at the lower corners.
Read this before touching the appliance
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Water on a kitchen floor near a powered appliance is the real hazard here: dry it before you kneel, and if water has reached a receptacle or a lead, switch the circuit off at the panel first.

Owner fix or service call
Call when the gasket is sound, detergent is eliminated and every accessible fitting is dry under load, because what remains is the sump, the pump seal or the tub itself and all of those need the machine out and the lower access open. Call immediately if water is present when the machine has not run, since that is a pressurised supply leak and it will not wait for an appointment. Gasket cleaning, dosing corrections and hose-clamp checks are all owner work here.
