What is actually going on
On the WQP line a leak at the front is the door gasket or the detergent dose, and this platform seals along three sides with the base relying on the tub lip — so on the models listed in the table on this page a leak at the lower corners is a gasket-seating question rather than a torn-gasket question.
What you are seeing
- The door gasket is hard, split or displaced — A gasket that has shrunk at the corners lets water past there first, which is why corner leaks are so common.
- The floor is wet only after the drain step — A drain-side joint that leaks under pump pressure and is dry otherwise. The WQP line puts this within reach without a teardown.
- Water is visible inside the base tray through the plinth — The tray is catching an internal leak and has not yet overflowed. It is an early warning.
- The machine stops mid-cycle and shows an error — A self-aborting cycle can be a leak detection rather than a drain fault.
- Damp or lifting flooring at the front edge — Swelling at the board joints means this has been going on for weeks.
- NEAR MISS — water in the sump rather than on the floor — That is a drainage fault and belongs on its own page.
- NEAR MISS — the leak is from the sink or the waste pipe — Household plumbing produces plenty of dishwasher puddles.
Causes, most likely first
- A base tray that has been filling for weeks — The one to check first. Small internal leaks collect in the tray until it overflows, at which point the puddle looks sudden and large. The WQP line is no worse than its siblings here, but it is no better either.
- A door gasket that fails only at temperature — Second on this list. Temperature-dependent leaks are gaskets, essentially always.
- A failed water inlet valve — Third most likely. A valve that does not close fully keeps filling and eventually overflows the tub. On the models listed in the table on this page this is the check that decides the job.
- A perished tub-to-pump hose — Further down. Internal hoses harden and split at their bends, leaking into the base tray rather than onto the floor at first.
- A leaking drain hose or clip — Rarer again. It leaks under pump pressure only, which makes it a once-per-cycle event that is easy to miss.
Working through it in order
- Ask what was done in the kitchen recently — A leak with a start date usually has a cause with the same date.
- Compare a hot programme against a cool one — Two programmes, one variable, and the answer is clear. On these models the panel comes away before anything else does.
- Check the filter and the level in the tub — Clear the filter before condemning the gasket.
- Look through the plinth for water in the base tray — A torch through the gap under the door shows tray water before it ever reaches the floor.
What to do before any panel comes off
Safety
Power off, water off, and let a hot cycle cool before opening the door fully. The tub, the racks and the standing water all hold heat for a long time after the programme ends.
