What is actually going on
The WMY line pumps upward into a hose that turns tightly behind the cabinet, so on the models listed in the table on this page a machine pushed back hard against the wall will fail to drain with nothing wrong inside it at all. The symptoms, and their near misses
- The machine drains but very slowly — Slow now means stopped soon; it is the same blockage at an earlier stage.
- The drum drains only when the machine is rocked — Movement shifts an obstruction enough to let flow resume. It is a definite jam and it will recur. That holds for every model the table on this page lists.

- NEAR MISS — the machine never filled in the first place — A cycle that ends dry with dirty washing is a fill fault, and the drain path was never tested.
What is most likely, and why
- A drain hose pushed too far into the standpipe — Ranked first on this platform. An over-inserted hose siphons and can also seal against the pipe wall, which stops the flow rather than helping it. It is one of the few places the models listed in the table on this page genuinely diverge.

- A kinked, trapped or blocked drain hose — Third most likely. The hose also silts up internally with detergent residue over years, narrowing until the flow cannot carry it. On the models listed in the table on this page the access for this is the same across the line.
- Excess suds preventing the pump from priming — Fourth, and getting rarer. Over-dosing produces a machine that will not drain and will not spin, and the fix is a rinse cycle with no detergent.
- A control board fault at the pump output — Uncommon here. Rare. It presents as a silent pump with a known-good pump fitted, and it needs a meter to confirm.
What to check first, second, third
- Run the same programme twice and compare — A fault that appears on one run and not the next is a jam or a failing pump rather than a fixed blockage.
- Check how deep the drain hose sits in the standpipe — It should not be submerged. Lift it and clip it so an air gap remains. On the models listed in the table on this page this is the check that decides the job.
- Empty and clean the drain filter — Clearing the filter answers the question for most machines in one step.
- Check the drain hose for internal silting — A clear-looking hose can still be half blocked internally; the only way to know is to take it off.
