- The machine walks across the floor on spin — Second on this list. A machine that moves is out of level, unevenly loaded, or still carrying its transit bolts from the day it was delivered.

- The detergent drawer floods or leaves residue — Fourth, and getting rarer. A drawer that will not clear is either over-dosed or blocked at its siphon, and both leave a crust that looks like a leak.
- The door glass stays dirty or the seal smells — Rarer again. The gasket lip is the one part of this machine that is never rinsed by the cycle. It has to be wiped.

The line between a fix and a call
Get someone out if the door will not release with the drum empty and the programme finished. Forcing it damages the lock and the door together.
