Water under the drawers of the BFTF line is a blocked defrost drain until proven otherwise, and it is an owner fix. Water behind the cabinet is a supply-line question and is a different fault with a different urgency. Establish which one you have before anything is moved.
The observations that matter
- Water on the kitchen floor in front of the cabinet — For every model in this family, usually a compartment that has overflowed forward past the door seal rather than a leak from the back of the machine.
- Water behind the cabinet with a dry interior — Points at the water supply line or its connection, which is the only part under pressure when nothing is running.
- The drip tray above the compressor is overflowing — A tray receiving more water than it can evaporate, which follows a long defrost, a failing door seal, or a tray that is out of position. It does not vary across the models listed on this page.
- Damp or frost on the rear wall of the fresh-food side — Warm humid air entering past a tired gasket condenses and then freezes, which produces water without any drain fault at all.
- Water appears only after a very warm day — Humidity loads the evaporator and produces more meltwater than usual, which finds any partial restriction in the drain.
- NEAR MISS: the compartment is warming as well as wet — Then the frost build is the primary fault and the cooling-failure page for this family applies first.
The causes in likelihood order
- A blocked defrost drain — First on the BFTF line by a wide margin. The drain is deliberately small to limit air movement, and a plug of ice or food debris at its entry backs the whole daily defrost load into the compartment. This applies to the whole line rather than to one model.
- A door gasket that no longer seals — Second because warm humid air admitted continuously condenses inside the cabinet and overloads the drain even when the drain is clear. It also causes the frost that eventually blocks it. The same is true of each model covered here.
- A drip tray out of position or overflowing — The tray is designed to evaporate what the drain delivers. Knocked out of place when the cabinet was moved, it delivers the same water onto the floor instead.
- A leaking water supply line or its connection — The only part of the appliance under pressure at rest, which is why it is the cause when water appears behind a cabinet that has not been running.
- A defrost system fault producing excess meltwater — Last because it presents as a drain problem and is not one: the drain is clear and simply cannot keep up. Confirming it needs the evaporator inspected behind the freezer panel.
The order to work in
- Find where the water actually appears — First on the BFTF line because under the drawers, behind the cabinet and on the floor are three different faults, and the location separates them without any tool. The models in the table behave the same way here.
- Clear the defrost drain opening — Second: it is at the base of the freezer rear wall or behind the crisper, and warm water plus a soft flexible line clears the usual plug in minutes.
- Check the door seal with a sheet of paper — Third, because a gasket that no longer grips loads the cabinet with humidity continuously and will refill the drain as fast as you clear it. That is true of every model this family spans.
Before you open anything
Safety
Switch off at the breaker before starting. If water has reached the socket behind the cabinet, a floor void or an adjoining unit, treat it as an electrical hazard, leave the circuit isolated, and do not restore power to check.

The service boundary
Stop and call if the leak has run under flooring or into an adjoining cabinet, or if you can see water at the rear supply connection that does not stop when the tap is closed. Both make the damage larger with every hour. That holds across every model this page covers.
