What this means on this line

Symptoms on these models

Why it happens, in order
- A blocked or coated lint filter — First on the BDV line because every cubic foot of drying air passes through it. A filter that looks clear can still be sealed by a transparent film of fabric softener, which is the version owners never find. The same is true of each model covered here.
- A clogged condenser stack or secondary filter — Second because it is the part of the air path owners do not know exists. Lint that passes the door filter accumulates here and progressively strangles the flow. This applies to the whole line rather than to one model.
- Overloading the drum — A drum packed past about two thirds cannot tumble the load, so wet fabric sits against wet fabric and the air never reaches most of it. Free to fix and very common.
- A blocked condensate pump or full tank — A machine that cannot dispose of the water it has collected will stop removing more, so the load stays damp with everything else apparently normal.
- A failed compressor on a heat-pump build — Last because it is rare and because it is indistinguishable from a severe restriction without service tooling, so the whole air path is cleared before it is considered.
