What this means on this line
Cycle faults on the BDV line split into three: the programme ends early with a damp load, the programme halts mid-run, or the programme runs on and never finishes. Each has a different cause on this platform and the distinction is worth making before anything is opened.
Symptoms on these models
- The cycle ends after a few minutes with a damp load — On each of the models covered here, a sensor programme reading the load as dry, usually because a small or synthetic load dries at the sensor before it dries throughout.
- The stop always happens at about the same elapsed time — A repeatable stop is a measured condition being reached rather than an intermittent electrical fault.
- Fabric softener is used on every wash — Softener residue transfers to the sensor bars and insulates them, which is the most common cause of a short cycle. It is the same on all the models in the table on this page.

Why it happens, in order
- A restricted air path causing a thermal stop — First on the BDV line because the machine halts rather than overheat, and because the filter and condenser stack are the two most commonly neglected parts of the appliance. The same is true of each model covered here.
- A full or unseated condensate tank — Second because the float reads the tank in its seated position: an emptied tank pushed back only part way still reports full and still stops the cycle. This applies to the whole line rather than to one model.
- A small or synthetic load fooling the moisture sensor — The sensor reads conductivity between bars in the drum, so a load too small to make regular contact reads dry almost immediately and ends the programme early.
- Overloading the drum — A packed drum cannot tumble, so the sensor sees only the outer layer and the cycle either ends early or runs indefinitely depending on which layer it reads.
- A failed thermistor reading a false temperature — Last because it needs service tooling to confirm and because a restricted air path produces the same thermal stops at no cost to exclude.
What to check first, second, third
- Clean the lint filter under running water — First on the BDV line because a softener film seals a filter that looks clear, and a sealed filter is the usual cause of a thermal stop. Every model in this family behaves this way.
- Withdraw and rinse the condenser stack — Second because it is the hidden half of the air path and the part most often left uncleaned for the life of the machine.
- Empty the condensate tank and push it fully home — Third: an unseated tank reads full and halts the cycle exactly as a genuinely full one does. That holds across every model this page covers.
- Wipe the moisture sensor bars in the drum — Softener residue on the bars insulates them and makes every load read dry, which produces a short cycle with damp clothes.
- Run the same programme with a normal mixed load — It separates a sensor being fooled by a small synthetic load from a machine that genuinely stops early on everything.
- Reduce the load to about half the drum — If the cycle then completes normally, the machine is working and the loading was the fault.
Before anything comes apart
Safety
Switch off at the breaker before work begins; stored charge can remain after the supply is cut. Clear accumulated lint from every surface you expose while you are in there, rather than leaving it for a later visit.
