On the DIT line the drain path is a single motorised pump with no separate valve, which removes a whole class of electrical faults from consideration. What remains is mechanical: something is in the way, or something is pinched. Both are found by inspection rather than by testing.
What owners actually see
- The pump runs but the level never drops — On the models this family spans, you can hear the drain pump working at the end of the programme, and the note stays high and dry rather than settling as the sump empties.
- The load comes out with grit redeposited on it — Dirty water that never left the tub is pumped back over the load on the next fill, so plates come out coarser than they went in.
- A stale smell builds in the cabinet between washes — Water held in the sump for days develops an odour that a rinse cycle does not clear, because the rinse cannot displace what will not drain. The same is true of each model covered here.
- NEAR MISS: water is on the floor rather than in the sump — A leak empties the tub by a route the pump does not control, and the leak page for this family covers it instead.
Ranked causes on this line
- Debris packed into the filter stack — Broken glass, labels and seeds collect in the fine mesh first and the coarse basket second. On the DIT line the whole stack sits directly over the pump inlet, so a partial block starves the pump of flow before it stops it outright. The models in the table behave the same way here.
- A kinked or trapped drain hose — Across the whole of this line, the hose leaves these cabinets high and turns immediately, so pushing the machine back into a tight housing pinches it against the wall. It is the single most common cause that has nothing wrong with the appliance at all.
- Fragments from a broken item in the pump inlet — Common enough to deserve its own entry: glass and china shards pass the coarse basket, reach the impeller, and jam it without ever filling the mesh.
- A drain hose pushed too far into the waste spigot — An over-inserted hose restricts its own outlet, which produces a slow drain that looks exactly like a partial blockage inside the machine.
- A level sensor that never reports an empty sump — Last because it is rare and because it mimics everything above it: the pump may be emptying the tub perfectly while the control refuses to move on. Confirming it needs service tooling rather than observation.
The diagnostic order
- Bail out the standing water first — A cup and a sponge, because every later check floods the floor otherwise and because the depth tells you whether the sump emptied partially or not at all. That is true of every model this family spans.
- Unscrew and clear the whole filter stack — Second, because it costs nothing and because on the DIT line it sits over the pump inlet, so it explains both a slow drain and a stopped one.
- Look into the pump inlet with a torch — Third, once the filter is out the inlet is visible from inside the tub, so the impeller is checked without moving the machine. It does not vary across the models listed on this page.

Isolate the machine and leave it isolated while you work. Do not tip a cabinet with a full sump: the water pours out through the door seal and takes whatever is in it onto the floor.

Where the owner line is
Service is warranted once the drain path has been proven clear end to end. On the DIT line that means the machine comes out of its housing, which is a two-person job with the water services disconnected, and it is not owner work. It is the same on all the models in the table on this page.
