The short answer
A leak on the BDDIT line is usually the door seal or the lower door edge rather than a split hose, because these models seal the door against a one-piece gasket that sits in a channel and can be lifted out of it by a knock. Find where the water lands before anything is dismantled: front, under, or behind are three different faults.
What you observe
- A puddle at the front foot after every cycle — On the models listed in the table on this page, the base tray drains forward, so this is the default destination for water from several different sources and is not by itself a door fault.
- Water running down the outside of the door — Visible during the wash rather than after it, and usually traced to the gasket sitting proud of its channel at one corner.
- A damp patch that appears only on hot programmes — Steam condensing past a hardened gasket wets the door edge on long hot cycles and stays dry on short cool ones. The models in the table behave the same way here.
- NEAR MISS: water stands inside the tub but the floor is dry — That is a drainage fault, covered on the drainage page for this family, and nothing on this page applies to it.
Causes, most likely first
- A dirty, hardened or displaced door gasket — Ranked first on the BDDIT line because the gasket is a single moulded strip held in a channel: grease hardens it, a knock lifts a corner, and either one breaks the seal along the whole edge rather than at a point. That holds across every model this page covers.
- Over-foaming from the wrong detergent — Within this line, hand dish soap or too much rinse aid raises foam above the door line and it escapes at the weakest point. It reads as a hardware fault and is entirely consumable-related.
- A loose or perished hose clip at the sump — The sump connections sit under the tub where the base tray catches any escape and carries it forward, which is why a rear leak so often shows at the front foot.
- A leaking fill valve or its inlet connection — The only part of the machine under pressure while it is idle, so this is the cause when the floor wets without a cycle running.
- A split or corroded tub seam or sump housing — Last because it is rare and because it is the one cause that ends the machine rather than starting a repair. Everything above it must be excluded first, since each imitates it perfectly once the base tray has carried the water forward.
Check in this order, and why
- Establish where the water lands before anything else — Dry the floor, lay paper at the front foot, at each side and behind, and run a short programme. This single step splits the fault tree in three. It is the same on all the models in the table on this page.
- Run a finger along the whole gasket — Second, because it is free and because on the BDDIT line a hardened or lifted section is felt long before it is seen. Clean it with hot water and check it seats in its channel all round.
- Review the detergent and the rinse-aid setting — Third, because over-foaming produces a convincing door leak with nothing wrong. Run one cycle with the correct product and a normal dose before suspecting hardware. This applies to the whole line rather than to one model.

Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing the kick panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Water and electricity share the base of this cabinet, so dry the tray before working in it and never reach behind a panel while the machine is connected.

When to call a technician
