In one paragraph
A cycle that stops part way is almost always the machine refusing to continue rather than breaking down. It is waiting for water it has not received, for a drum it cannot drain, or for a load it cannot balance. On the BSW line specifically, the platform's layout is what decides which of those gets checked first.
What this looks like on a BSW unit
- The cycle stops with the drum full of water — A drainage fault. The machine will not proceed to the spin over standing water. It is the first thing worth confirming on a BSW unit.
- An error indication or flashing light pattern — The machine has detected something specific, and that is the thing to act on first.
- The door stays locked after the cycle stops — Normal while water remains in the drum; the lock releases once the level is safe.
- NEAR MISS: it will not start at all — That is a start fault, not a cycle fault, and the checks are different.
What it usually turns out to be on the BSW line
- An unbalanced load the machine cannot spin — Ranked first. The machine tries to redistribute, fails, retries and abandons the spin, and the cycle never completes. A single heavy item is the usual culprit. The BSW build does not move this one: its rank is the same here as on the brand-generic page.
- A kinked inlet hose — Same effect as a closed tap and just as free to fix. It usually follows the machine being moved.
- A door lock that is not reporting closed — The machine pauses rather than continuing with a door it cannot verify, and the complaint is a cycle that stalls near the start.
- A failed pressure switch, motor or control board — Last, and diagnosed by elimination. All three are tested electrically and none is owner work.
The order that narrows it
- Note exactly where in the cycle it stops, and whether the drum is full — Full means drainage; empty means fill. This single observation splits the whole list. The BSW layout is the reason it comes first here.
- Run the same cycle with a light, evenly spread load — A control test for balance, and it needs nothing but time.
- Read any error indication before anything else — The machine has already done part of the diagnosis and it is reporting the result.
Before you open anything
Safety
Isolate the appliance before anything is opened, and let a hot cycle cool first. Water that comes out of the filter after a hot wash is genuinely hot, and a stalled cycle often stalls with the drum still warm.
