The short answer
Loud noise from a Bangson portable washer is nearly always load balance and the floor, not a bearing: with no springs or counterweight the machine transmits everything straight into the room. Redistribute the load and set the castor brakes before suspecting the machine. Objects trapped under the pulsator come second, and they are also owner-fixable.
What you observe
- A heavy knocking during spin only — The load has gathered on one side of a tub with nothing damping it.
- The machine walks across the floor — Light cabinet, unlocked castors, smooth floor.
- A grinding or scraping during wash — Something small is trapped under the pulsator or between tub and basket.
- NEAR MISS — a buzz with no drum movement — That is a start or drive fault, not a noise fault, and it belongs on the page for a washer that will not start.
Causes, most likely first on this brand
- An unbalanced load on an unsprung tub — First and by a long way on portable machines: a single towel or a tangled sheet puts the whole load on one side, and there is no suspension to take the imbalance out.
- Unlocked castors or an uneven floor — Second. Portable washers are moved to the sink and back, and the brakes stay off. A light machine on a smooth floor turns any imbalance into a walk across the room.
- An object trapped under the pulsator — Third: coins, buttons and bra wires get past a plastic pulsator far more easily than past a full-size agitator, and they grind against the tub every revolution.
- A worn drain pump or drive bearing — Last, because it is genuinely uncommon on machines this light, and it is the only cause that needs the cabinet opened.
Check in this order, and why
- Stop the machine mid-spin and redistribute the load — If the noise goes, balance was the cause and nothing is broken.
- Set the brakes and check the floor — A machine that rocks on its castors will always sound broken.
- Run an empty spin and listen — Noise with an empty tub rules load balance out and points inside the machine.
- Only then look for a trapped object or a pump fault — That means draining the tub and getting at the pulsator.

Safety
Unplug the washer and let it drain before reaching into the tub or under the pulsator — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off, and the pulsator can turn without warning if the cycle resumes. Never run the machine with the lid switch defeated: on a top-loader it stops the tub when the lid opens, and a spinning basket does not stop instantly. Keep the mains lead clear of standing water.
When to call a technician
Call when an empty spin is still noisy on a level machine with locked brakes and nothing trapped in the tub. From there the suspects are the pump impeller, the drive coupling and the tub bearing, all inside the cabinet. Call immediately if the noise is accompanied by water under the machine, because a leaking seal and a failing bearing on a portable washer often arrive together.
