Noises from a gas range are worth listening to carefully, because a few of them are ordinary and one of them is not: continuous clicking, roaring flames and popping are three different stories. - Clicking that continues after the burner has lit — The igniter is still firing because the control thinks no flame is present, usually from moisture or a misplaced cap.

- Burner cap or head out of position — Second. A cap sitting proud changes how the flame sits and how the flame probe sees it, which produces both noise and continued clicking.
- Blocked ports making the flame uneven — Third: a partly blocked ring burns unevenly, which is what produces popping as it lights and as it goes out.
- Air-to-gas mixture out of adjustment — Fourth, and it is the licensed-work case: a roaring flame that survives a proper clean and a correct cap is an adjustment matter for a technician.
What to check first, second, third
- Note whether the noise happens with a burner lit or unlit — Clicking with a lit burner is a flame-detection story; any noise with everything off is a different and more serious question.
- Lift each cap and check it sits flat and centred — Do it cold. A cap a few degrees out of position accounts for a surprising amount of noise.
- Look at the flame all the way round the ring — Even, blue and quiet is the target. Gaps and yellow tips point at the ports.

Do not open a gas fitting without shutting off the supply first, and do not seal a suspected leak with tape or compound. Cleaning and seating the burner parts and drying the igniter cover the great majority of gas-range noise complaints, and they are proper owner work with the gas off and the surface cold.
