The answer first
A new noise from a gas range is usually about the flame rather than about a moving part, because there are very few moving parts. Where the noise is and when it happens identifies it. The appliance itself is the best diagnostic tool you have: what works tells you as much as what does not. Read the list in order; the order is the point.
What you observe
- A hum or vibration from the oven while it heats — A convection fan or its mounting rather than anything to do with gas.
- A roaring burner with a flame that lifts off the ports — Too much air or too much gas for the port, which usually follows a cleaning or a conversion.
- A pop or bang as a burner lights or is turned off — Delayed ignition, or gas continuing briefly after the flame is cut.
- NEAR MISS: a hiss with no burner lit and a smell of gas — That is not a noise complaint. Leave the building and call the gas utility from outside.
Causes, most likely first
- Fouled or partly blocked burner ports — Most likely here. It leads on these shared platforms because the burner hardware is common across the group, and so is the way it sounds when a port is fouled. Distorts the flame pattern and produces whistling, roaring and uneven burning on the affected burner only.
- Burner cap not seated correctly — Next most likely. The most common cause of a burner that suddenly sounds different, and nearly always follows a cleaning.
- Delayed ignition — Third in the order. Gas accumulating before it lights produces the pop.
- Spark module clicking continuously — Then this one. A wet or dirty electrode keeps the module sparking after the flame is established, which is annoying and is also telling you the electrode is fouled.
- Body: These are ordered for this brand and appliance rather than for the appliance class in general, and the ordering is qualitative.
Where to start, and what comes next
- Identify which burner the noise comes from — One burner is hardware; every burner at once points upstream at regulation.
- Note when the noise happens: lighting, running, or switching off — Each timing points at a different cause.
- Look at the flame pattern on the affected burner — Lifting, yellow or uneven flames are visible evidence.
- Body: The order below is done cold, and it stops at anything that is not a burner part you can lift off by hand.
Owner-side checks, step by step
- Turn everything off and let the range cool completely — Nothing here is done on a warm appliance.
- Lift off the cap and head and wash them thoroughly — Clear every port with a soft brush and dry completely.

- Dry the spark electrode — Continuous clicking after lighting usually stops once it is dry.

- STOP at anything involving a valve, a regulator or a gas connection — That is qualified work in every jurisdiction.
Safety, before anything else

If you smell gas, do not switch anything on or off, leave the building, and call the gas utility or the emergency number from outside; do not look for the leak yourself. Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel, and never adjust or disconnect a gas connection, valve or regulator yourself.
When to stop and call
Call a qualified engineer for any noise that affects every burner at once, for repeated delayed ignition, and for anything that comes from the regulator or a valve. A single burner that whistles or roars after cleaning is usually the cap, and that is yours to correct. If the fault followed a cleaning cycle, say so: that is diagnostic information.
