Start here, for CTW models
When an Avanti CTW washer pauses forever or ends early, resist the urge to change programmes. Watch one cycle from the beginning and record where it stalls: that single observation does more than any parts guess, because each step has its own short list of causes.
What you notice first
- It stops and the panel shows a code or a flashing pattern — Within the CTW family, a latched fault. Note the pattern before you cut the power, because switching off may clear the evidence.
- It keeps repeating a rinse or a spin — Looking at CTW models specifically, the machine is trying and failing to satisfy a condition, most often a level that will not fall.
- The cycle takes far longer than it used to — On this family, a slow fill or a slow drain stretches a programme without ever failing it outright.
- It stops at the same point every time — On the CTW line, a fault that keeps to one point in the cycle is far easier to place than one that wanders.
- It runs right through but the load is still soaking — On CTW models in particular, the cycle completed on paper and the spin achieved nothing, which is a drainage or balance result.
- NEAR MISS — it never starts at all — That is a start fault, not a cycle fault. The wont-start page for your model line is the right place.
Ranked causes on the CTW line
- A restricted or absent water supply — First, because a machine that cannot reach its fill level simply waits, and the commonest reasons are a half-closed tap and a silted inlet screen.
- A load the machine cannot balance — Out-of-balance detection retries, redistributes and eventually gives up, which reads as a cycle that never finishes. For CTW models the reasoning is identical.
- A door proof that drops out mid-cycle — Mid-list because it explains an intermittent stall that changes position from wash to wash.
- A control board or harness fault — Last: real, but far rarer than the four owner-checkable conditions above. That is the position it takes on this family.
Check in this order, and why
- Watch one full cycle and note exactly where it stops — On this family, fill, wash, drain or spin — the step names the short list, and nothing else on this page matters until you know it.
- Check both taps, hoses and inlet screens — For the CTW line, turn the taps off, unscrew the hoses at the machine, and rinse the screens.
- Check both taps are fully open and the inlet screens are clear — Close the taps, unscrew the hose at the machine end and look at the small screen inside the fitting.
- Repeat the programme with a smaller mixed load — On CTW models in particular, if it completes, the machine was refusing to spin a load it could not balance.
Before you take any panel off
Safety
Switch the washer off at its socket or breaker before any panel comes off — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Close both taps before unscrewing an inlet hose to look at its screen, and have a towel ready. Leave the lid catch and its wiring exactly as built.

When to hand it over
Call once you can say where the cycle stops, both taps are open with clear screens, the filter and drain path are clear and a smaller balanced load makes no difference. What is left is a level sensor, a heater, a motor control or the board, and all of those need a meter behind a panel.
