Start here, for WCF models
On an Avanti WCF refrigerator a warm cabinet with the motor running points at the defrost and airflow side of the machine, not at the refrigerant. These are tightly packed cabinets with small coils, so a thin layer of dust or a light frost sheet costs more cooling here than it would on a full-size unit. The first two checks need no tools at all.
What the owner sees
- Condensation or sweating on the outside of the cabinet — On this family, beads on the frame or the mullion say the gasket is passing air, which reads as poor cooling.
- Frost has built into a solid sheet on the rear wall — Where WCF models are concerned, not the usual light dusting — a slab you can tap, which means the defrost cycle has stalled.
- The cabinet is warm but the unit is plainly running — Looking at WCF models specifically, the motor note is normal and continuous; nothing inside is at the temperature it should be.
- The compressor runs constantly and never cycles off — On a WCF model, it is trying to reach a setpoint it cannot make, which points at airflow, the seal or the condenser.
- NEAR MISS — water is pooling under the cabinet — A leak with normal temperatures is a drain or fill fault, not a cooling fault. Read the water-leak page for your model line.
Likely causes for WCF models, most common first
- A stalled defrost cycle icing the evaporator — It leads on these cabinets because the evaporator sits directly behind the rear panel with very little clearance, so even a thin sheet closes the air path completely.
- A condenser coil blanketed in dust — High on the list because these machines are built into cabinetry or pushed against a wall, and the coil is the part nobody ever cleans. That is the position it takes on this family.
- An ambient temperature outside what the unit is rated for — It belongs here because the fix is free — move it, or open the clearance — and because it explains a unit that only misbehaves in summer.
- A sealed-system or compressor fault — Last, and that ordering is the point: it is the least common cause and the only one that is not an owner fix. It is ranked the same way on every WCF model.
Where to start, and what follows
- Open the door and listen for the circulating fan — On this family, it separates the two likeliest causes before a single tool comes out: air moving means the fan is alive.
- Measure the gap behind and above the cabinet by eye — On WCF models in particular, pull it forward a hand-width and run it for a day: if it improves, clearance was the limit.
- Listen for whether the compressor ever stops — On a WCF model, a unit that cycles is reaching its setpoint; one that runs continuously is not.

Safety
Pull the plug or trip the breaker first — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Two people move a loaded cabinet, not one: these machines are top-heavy with the door open, and a dropped cabinet flattens the condenser tubing. Keep the door switch and its harness intact throughout.

Where the owner line falls
Call once the clearance is right, the seal passes a paper test, the condenser is clean, the vents inside are clear and a thermometer still says the cabinet cannot hold its temperature. What is left is the sealed system, the compressor or the control, and none of those is owner work.
