The short answer for RM models
A leak on the RM family is a routing problem. Every refrigerator produces water; the drain, the pan and the seal are the three things that decide where it goes, and a fault in any of them puts it on your floor instead. Isolate the machine before you work on the floor around it.
What the owner sees
- A musty smell with damp at the base of the cabinet — Standing water in a channel that has not drained for some time.
- A sheet of ice on the floor of the freezer section — Melt that refroze before it reached the drain, which is the same fault seen a day later.
- An old stain on the floor with no visible water now — An intermittent leak on the defrost cycle rather than a continuous one.

Causes, most likely first on RM models
- Drain pan cracked, displaced or overflowing — The pan sits over the compressor so its heat can evaporate what collects. It heads the list because the thirty-four codes this stem runs to share it — nothing in the model table separates one code from another on this point.
- Cabinet not level, so condensate runs the wrong way — The channels inside a refrigerator rely on a slight tilt backwards to work. Second on this family: it produces the same complaint as the cause above it, so the two have to be separated before either is acted on.
- Frost building where it should not, then melting — Ice that forms on the rear wall or around a vent melts when the machine cycles off, and that melt arrives somewhere the drain was never meant to serve. - Let the location choose the cause — On RM cabinets the position of the water is more informative than its quantity, so the first step is to find where it is arriving rather than how much of it there is.
- Pull the cabinet out and look at the pan — It should sit square on its bracket and be damp rather than brimming. Note whether it is cracked or merely displaced.
- Check the cabinet sits square and slightly back — A spirit level across the top, or a door that swings open on its own, tells you in seconds.
- Look for frost in places that should be clear — The rear wall, the vents and the area around the door are the three that matter.
