Avallon ADDR Series Refrigerator is the scope of this page, and on it an ice maker that has stopped producing points first at the shut-off arm or sensor reading the bin as full. All 5 of the causes below can at least be narrowed down without a tool, which is unusual and worth taking advantage of.
What you observe
- There is a thin sheet of ice under the bin — Water going somewhere other than into the mould, which is a fill or a seating problem.
- The cubes taste or smell wrong — Ice takes on whatever is in the air and the water line. It is a filtration and storage matter rather than a mechanical fault.
- Cubes come out cloudy or with a white core — Normal on most machines; it is dissolved air and minerals rather than a fault.
- NEAR MISS — water is pooling on the floor — A supply leak needs the water off before anything else. Go to the leak page first.
Causes, most likely first on the ADDR series
- The shut-off arm or sensor reading the bin as full — An arm knocked up, or an optical sensor with frost across it, simply switches production off. Nothing is broken, and no diagnosis further down the list will find anything.
- A clogged water filter or low supply pressure — Pressure decides the fill volume, and fill volume decides cube size. This is the cause that shows up as poor ice rather than as no ice.
- A frozen fill tube — Clearing the tube fixes it for a week. The reason it froze in the first place is low pressure or a partly failed valve, which is why this one comes back.
- A freezer compartment that is not cold enough to harvest — A freezer holds food safely at 0 °F (−18 °C) or below, and an ice maker needs that too. Above it the cycle stretches out and eventually stops completing.
- A bin or ice maker that is not seated properly — Anything that was removed for cleaning and put back slightly out of place shows up here, usually within a day.
Check in this order, and why
- Establish whether water is arriving at all — No water and some water are two different faults with two different lists, and nothing below matters until you know which you have.
- Check the shut-off arm or sensor before anything else — It takes five seconds, it is free, and it is the single most common reason a working ice maker makes nothing.
- Count what arrives over a full day rather than an hour — Ice makers work in batches with long waits between them, so anything measured over an hour tells you nothing useful.
- Empty the bin completely and start from nothing — A part-full bin hides both slow production and a shut-off arm that is being held up.
- Only then suspect the module itself — It is last because it is the only expensive item on the list and the most frequently replaced without cause.

Nothing below happens on a live machine. Unplug it or switch off its breaker before any panel comes off, and remember a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. The sealed system is off limits. It is licensed work, and a system opened without the right equipment is a system that cannot simply be closed again. Leave every interlock and door switch exactly as you find it: each one cuts power to something for a reason.

When to call a technician
