The short answer
On the ABR series of Avallon refrigerators, an ice maker that has stopped producing leads first to a frozen fill tube. No page above this one covers the fault for the brand as a whole here, so the order below is complete rather than a refinement. All 5 of the causes below can at least be narrowed down without a tool, which is unusual and worth taking advantage of.
What you actually see
- Production is far slower than it used to be — Slow rather than stopped points at fill volume and at compartment temperature rather than at the module.
- There is a thin sheet of ice under the bin — Water going somewhere other than into the mould, which is a fill or a seating problem.
- Production stopped after the door was taken off or reversed — Anything disturbed at the hinge can catch the switch or the arm that stops production.
- NEAR MISS — the whole cabinet is warm as well — Then the cooling fault comes first: no cabinet that cannot hold temperature will make ice, and that is a different page.
Causes, most likely first on the ABR series
- A frozen fill tube — A slow fill freezes where it lands, the ice creeps back up the tube, and from then on nothing can get through. It is the classic repeat fault, because the slow fill is still there after you clear it.
- The shut-off arm or sensor reading the bin as full — Every ice maker has something that stops it when the bin fills, and a bag of frozen peas resting on that arm looks exactly like a full bin. It is first here because it is free and it is common.
- The water inlet valve or the supply behind it — If nothing is arriving, nothing can freeze. A closed shut-off, a kinked line behind the cabinet or a valve that has stopped opening all present identically.
- A door that is not closing, or a switch that thinks it is open — Many cabinets pause the ice circuit while the door is open. A switch that never releases keeps that pause going permanently.
- A bin or ice maker that is not seated properly — If the bin is not home, the arm or sensor cannot read it, and cubes can drop past it instead of into it. The ice under the bin is the giveaway.
The order to work in
- Check the shut-off arm or sensor before anything else — It takes five seconds, it is free, and it is the single most common reason a working ice maker makes nothing.
- Establish whether water is arriving at all — No water and some water are two different faults with two different lists, and nothing below matters until you know which you have.
- Only then suspect the module itself — It is last because it is the only expensive item on the list and the most frequently replaced without cause.

Before a panel comes off, the machine comes off the supply: unplug it or switch its breaker off. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Refrigerant work is licensed work: the sealed system is not to be opened, tapped or topped up by an owner at any level of experience.
