ARTIC CHEF Refrigerator: Door, Latch or Seal Fault
A refrigerator door that will not seal is usually not a worn gasket — it is a door that is no longer hanging square, a gasket that has taken a set from being closed on an obstruction, or a cabinet that is not level. Artic Chef is a badge with little published specification and no derating data you can look up. Levelling, alignment and gasket cleaning are entirely owner work and they fix most of these. A hinge or a door that has warped is not.
What the owner actually observes
- The door does not pull itself shut over the last part of its travel, and sits very slightly proud.
- Condensation or frost forms along one edge of the door or on the frame beside it.
- The gasket is visibly torn, hardened, or has a permanent crease where something was closed on it.
- The door drops or sags visibly when opened, and the gap at the top differs from the gap at the bottom.
- The machine runs far more than it used to, and the fresh-food side is warmer than the setting suggests.

- The gasket by closing the door on a strip of paper at several points around the frame and pulling it out — Order: second — Because: it identifies exactly where the seal is failing rather than telling you only that it is
- The gap along the door edge at the top and at the bottom, and whether the hinge fixings are tight — Order: third — Because: an uneven gap proves alignment rather than gasket, and no gasket will fix an alignment fault

- Look at the room before the machine. Note where the unit stands, how warm that space gets, how much clearance it has at the back and sides, whether it shares a circuit with anything heavy, and whether it sits level. - Clean the gasket and the frame it seals against with warm water and a mild detergent, working into the folds, then dry it. - Pull the unit out, clear a hand-width behind and above it, check it is level in both directions, and confirm nothing else heavy is on the same circuit. When to call a technician
The line is where the fix becomes a door or hinge removal. Call if the door itself has warped, which shows as a gap that cannot be closed by levelling or by hinge adjustment. Call if a hinge is worn rather than merely loose, since replacing one means taking the door off. Call if frost is forming inside the cabinet as well as at the door, which suggests the seal has already let in enough humid air to affect the defrost cycle. Call if the gasket needs replacing on a door that carries a dispenser or a display, where the loom runs through the door.
