Start from the event, not the puddle
If a Whirlpool dishwasher started leaking on a day you can name, look at what changed. A new detergent - or washing-up liquid used by mistake - foams beyond what the tub can hold and pushes out at the door. Plumbing work disturbs fittings that had been fine for years. A reinstall traps a hose or leaves the machine unlevel. And a door forced shut on a protruding item distorts the seal for good.

Before you reach under the machine
Safety
Switch off the dishwasher breaker and shut the supply valve before reaching underneath. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Water on a kitchen floor near a powered appliance is a slip and a shock risk. Dry the floor before working, and keep the breaker off while you do. Do not keep running a machine that is leaking into cabinets or onto a wooden floor.
When this becomes a service call
