The answer first
A freezer has no water supply, so water around one is either melted frost or condensation. On this cabinet the first suspect is defrost drain blocked.
What you observe
- Water pooling in the bottom of the cabinet — A blocked defrost drain, or frost that has thawed and not drained.
- A puddle on the floor at the front — Water has run forward from the cabinet floor or the drain.
- Water running down the outside of the cabinet — Condensation on the shell rather than a leak at all.
- NEAR MISS — water only around an ice maker or a water line — That belongs to the refrigerator side of the appliance, not the freezer cabinet.
Causes, most likely first on a SKS freezer
- Defrost drain blocked — Once blocked, the water backs up over the cabinet floor and runs forward when the door opens. Ranked first on a SKS freezer: it is the commonest source of water in any frost-free cabinet, and the water is melted frost rather than a supply leak.
- Lid or door seal letting humid air in — Warm humid air entering past a tired seal condenses on the cold surfaces and runs down them.
- A humid room, or a cabinet opened often — In a damp garage or basement, condensation forms on the outside of the cabinet with nothing wrong at all.
- Cabinet out of level, so the drain does not fall — The defrost drain has no pump behind it: a cabinet tipped the wrong way holds the water instead of shedding it.
Check in this order, and why
- Look for ice or water on the cabinet floor at the back — Water pooling there is the drain, not the shell.
- Close the lid or door on a sheet of paper and pull it out, right round — On a chest cabinet check the hinge end first.
- Note whether the water is on the outside of the cabinet or inside it — Water on the outside in a damp room is condensation, not a leak.
What an owner can safely check
- Empty the lower baskets and flush the drain opening at the back with warm water from a turkey baster — Warm water clears an ice plug and most debris. Never force wire down a drain tube.
Tools: turkey baster, warm water, towelsAbout 30 min
- Test the seal with paper all the way round, then clean the gasket or lid seat and check the lid sits flat — A seal that is clean and still springy stops the condensation at source.
Tools: sheet of paper, warm soapy waterAbout 20 min
- STOP HERE if the next check needs a panel off or a meter on live terminals — That is where the owner checks end and a service call begins, whatever the ranking says.
Before you open anything
Safety
Switch the freezer off at the plug or the breaker before removing a panel; a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Never put a sharp tool or a heat gun to an iced evaporator — thin, pressurised tubing, and a hole in it is the end of the machine. Support the lid while you work, and empty the cabinet into coolers before moving it.
When to call a technician
Call when the drain is clear, the seal is good, the cabinet is level and the water still returns, because what is left is the drain tube inside the insulation or the pan under the compressor. Dry the floor in the meantime: water beside a powered appliance is worth taking seriously. Door and hinge work on a panelled machine is a trained job: the panel weight is carried by the hinge springs and a mis-set hinge damages the cabinetry as well as the appliance.

What this page does not cover
This is the generalised SKS freezer page. A family- or model-specific page, where one exists, is linked above and is the more precise answer for your unit. Left out on purpose: part numbers, connector colours, the order panels come off in, and every torque figure — a generalised page cannot be right about any of them.
